Bourke Street Mall
A southern hub of vivacious style, Melbourne is home to many boutique shops. At the heart of Melbourne’s fashion and retail culture, the Bourke Street Mall remains one of the city’s most beloved shopping and tourist attractions. The most distinguished building within the area is the redesigned city post office. True to classical form, the best of fashions are timeless, and from vintage to current vogue items, nothing escapes the rapture of Melbourne's trendy shoppers. Bourke Street's highly acclaimed restaurants, like the world-celebrated Flower Drum Chinese restaurant, are popular amongst visitors.
- Tour the Victorian arches of the heritage General Post Office, now completely refurbished to house Bourke Street Mall’s vintage and designer boutiques under its towering Ionic and Corinthian columns.
- Take a romantic stroll past the renowned boutique Christmas displays of the signature Myers Store, a popular tourist attraction in Melbourne.
- Step into the magnificent realm of the early 19th century Melbourne Royal Arcade, complete with mythical statues, ornate interiors, and home to many of the city's most desirable stores.
To reach this popular Melbourne attraction, visitors may take a tram down either Swanston or Elizabeth Street, which hug the Bourke Street Mall from both the east and west. Several tram lines stop on either side of Bourke Street. The General Postal Office building is located on the east side of Elizabeth Street, where Bourke Street narrows for automobile and tram use. The sidewalks widen for pedestrian use past the GPO until the intersection at Russell Street. Travellers can walk the length of the Bourke Street Mall and turn at one of the nearby intersections to explore downtown Melbourne.
