Acceptable but somewhat dated.

I picked the Riverfront due to its proximity to friends that I was visiting. We stayed in the Motel rooms overlooking the river and despite the pleasant outlook it is however somewhat dated and typical of what you would expect of a Motel built in the 1960s. Apart from the basic facilities, the rooms were noisy in that there was absolutely no doubt when other guests were arriving or departing from nearby rooms. Further, the windows in the room and the bathroom were louvre type and did not seal particularly well and during a few windy winter days in June, this certainly makes a difference. I also found the free WiFi painfully slow and limited to 50mb/day, so instead I opted to continue using the included data allowance of my own mobile phone service. Beds were reasonably comfy and the electric heaters in the main room and bathroom did a fair job under the circumstances. I would stay here again if there was no where else available, but despite its proximity to the MONA, I would have a look eslewhere first, if that was your reason for staying in this part of Hobart.

Basic Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel before, although it is pretty basic, I was only staying for one night, so decided to stay here again. When I arrived, the girl on reception told me I had two rooms booked, I said I didn't as it was only myself. The room I had this time had a really bad mattress and the small heater in the room didn't work properly. Position on the river is great though. Needless to say, I wouldn't stay here again.

Showing friends round Tassie

Hotel was not fairly represented on website, showing flash homestead not the 60's era rooms that were rented to us. Rooms very dated and ours had only half length curtains so room was filled with light from outside - no good for sleeping. Restaurant was good and staff friendly & competent enough. Only real saving grace of the stay was the low rate but the whole place needs a facelift & quickly.

Good family accommodation

A bit old but very clean & great location on the river and close to DEC. Fantastic breakfast & no hidden charges eg you find a great deal then when you go to book you find the rate is for 2 people & an extra person is like an extra $50. The rate was for all 3 of us and there was a separate area for kids to sleep

Great Place on the River

Nice place, all amenities. We were only there for 1 night and it was raining so didn't use the pool or go around the grounds which was a pity as they looked magnificent.Beautiful views from our window and balcony. Bathroom and basin a bit chipped and well used but clean enough. Would stay there again as it was good value and comfy beds.

Rest up here when exhausted by your visit to MONA

The Riverview is perfectly located if heading to MONA and needing to watch the old budget. In design it is the classic early model motel. The in-house restaurant has charming staff and the ambience is pleasant. TVs are old CRTs and bathrooms are retro but functional and clean. Would benefit from a refresh but represents value for money as is.

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

Check out the yellow metal arching structure that proudly display the name of the establishment. This was once the ceremonial archway celebrating the visit of Her Majesty in the fifties, when it had a massive crown where the Riverside Inn now shines upon us all.

Clean, Great Value and Beutiful View

If you don't need to stay in the city centre and want to watch your wallet, this is an ideal place to stay. Do 'splurge' and ask for a family room with a view of the river (it cost me about $10 a night more than for the quite small regular room but was far more roomy and the view was so tranquil). This not a venue for people who want to be pampered. It's for practical travelers who appreciate terrific value. It is close to MONA and the Cadbury Factory. I'd hire a car if staying here (the cab to the airport and back will cost the equivalent of a couple days' car hire anyway). There is a good, solid restaurant on site, too. I stayed in a regular room for three nights on my first stay, upgraded to a family room with river view on my second three-night stay and have just booked the same again for a stay next week.

Difficult location to find but well worth the trouble

While very much a typical Motel, the overall amenities were excellent. Friendly staff at each contact point. Great dining room and good food all well priced. We would certainly stay there again.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Due to the construction of a new highway in the area, the Motel site has been "cut off" and is hard to initially locate. A fair way to the shops but has some lovely walks.
