Queenstown, AU

Historic Queenstown was once a mining area in Tasmania, Australia, but now enjoys its reputation as a stopover site for the more touristy areas of the West Coast like Strahan, Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clair and Zeehan. The barren, desolate countryside may actually appeal to fans of post-apocalyptic films, as it has been ravaged by years of strip mining; however, keep driving if you prefer breathtaking vistas, and you will not be disappointed by the beauty of the unique attractions that dot the Tasmanian coastline.

Queenstown Attractions

  • Evans Old Corner Store & Market
  • Spion Kopf Lookout
  • The Galley Museum

Queenstown Activities

  • Tour Bradshaw's Sawmill on Lynchford Road
  • View the Franklin River Valley from Donaghy's Hill
  • Fish for trout on Lake Burbury

Queenstown Climate

January and February are summer months for Queenstown, and typical highs range from 19-20°C, while June through August are winter months bringing lows of 2-4°C. Annual rainfall for Queenstown is around 285 cm, with October through December being the wettest months.

Getting There & Around

The most efficient route to Queenstown by car is the A10 motorway, but you can also take a more scenic (but longer) route from Hobart. The nearest airport is Strahan Airport, which is 34 km away and accessible via the West Coast Wilderness Railway or aforementioned A10.

Your best choice for getting around Queenstown is probably by car, as there is little to no innercity public transportation.
