Great place to stay

Convenient location. The 1-bedroom suite is nicely decorated and the suite is spotless clean. The staff was very generous and offers free wifi for our 2 night stay, in compensation for the temporary problem of the door access card. One minor issue is the carparking space, which we found too small for our SUV. Overall, it's good value for money.

Friendly and helpful staff

The system was down when we check-in but our check-in still went relatively smooth. However, the card for access to the room was not very reliable and everytime, we have to try several times before we can get into the room. The room card which should also provide access from the parking to the hotel never worked and we either have to knock on the door to have someone open the door for us or we have to walk outside from the parking and enter the buidling from the main entrance. We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. The room was clean and spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was good and we can walk to the main shopping area and restuarants even though we choose not to as the first night we saw some police arresting a gentlemen just half a block away. The area does not feel unsafe but we avoided walking just to be safe. There were no positive surprises as we have stayed in better Sebel hotels but overall, we had a comfortable stay and have no issue with staying in the hotel again. The major issue was the parking. The parking spaces was a bit tight even for the mid size SUV we rented. There were also very limited parking space. We returned to the hotel after dinner, probably around 9-ish and we took up the last space avaliable on our first night.

Catching up with family in Tassie

This is the third time we have stayed at The Sebel Launceston. The first 2 times were perfect. On checking in this time the staff member didn`t seem very "with it" she couldn`t find our booking at first then really didn`t explain anything. We arrived into our room to find it smelt awful, as we were staying 6 nights we decided we would not be able to sleepin such a smelly room for 6 nights so went to ask to change rooms which we did do without a fuss. Overall they are nice apartments and we couldn`t ask for anything else to be included, there is a full fridge/ freezer, 2 burner cooktop, microwave, dishwasher drawer, and all pots, pans crockery to self cater if needed. The bed is comfortable and other than the smelly room has always been clean. When we were checking out we were asked to pay for parking, unfortunately we were under the impression parking had been included in the rate we paid as it had been the previous 2 times. When we mentioned this and also the fact that the girl who checked us in didn`t mention the cost of parking the girl on the desk said oh well she probably should have. I guess it wouldn`t be a problem paying extra for the parking if there were enough parking spots available and if you didn`t have to park on the street and run down to the meter at times, seems a bit odd that they hand out more parking permits than they have spaces and then charge everyone knowing there are not enough spots. We had breakfast in the restaurant once but found the staff member didn`t seem to want to be there and the food was less than average for the price. I would think twice before booking here again.

Good stay but cold.

We had another good stay. The staff were great including handling a 1.30 am fire alarm quickly and with good communication. The only criticism is that the rooms was cold and the heater took a long time to heat it up. Electric Blankets on the bed would have been appreciated. Will stay there again.

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

The Pinot Shop has an excellent range of wine, including Tasmanian, at good prices. Ask for Michelle.

Staff were very hospitable and knowledgeable about the area.

Clean and comfortable except for a used razor and face towel with hair on it in our bathroom drawer (cleaners obviously don't check in there) left behind by previous guest. However, hidden from sight, had I not opened the drawer at all, then you would think that they had done a great job with overall cleanliness. Front desk staff were amazing. We were recommended a fantastic restaurant close by for dinner on a Sunday night when not much else seemed alive and kicking in the direct vicinity.

Top Spot!

Despite a bit of a wait at the front desk on our Saturday afternoon check in, our stay was well worth the room tariff. Our room had a very geneous living area with a small balcony and the bedroom, toilet (separate) and bathroom areas were quite spacious. Good bathroom toiletries and kitchen extras. Staff were courteous and helpful. This is a quiet end of town and we were not disturbed too much on our Saturday night there. We will stay again on our next visit to Launceston.

Nice stay

We had a nice stay In a spacious and clean 2 bedroom apartment. Hotel staff were friendly but could have mentioned the $8 car park fee when we checked in. All in all a very good experience.

Average hotel

We had a one bedroom suite and it was smaller than I expected. I kept tripping over or running into furniture while moving around. Disappointing for cleanliness- hair (not ours) and bits of food found on the floor and under the lounge. Not great when we had our baby crawling around putting things in her mouth. Also we paid for parking, which is cheaper than metered on-street parking at $8/night, but being the weekend a couple of times we returned to find that there were no designated hotel spots available (carpark is shared with local businesses and you can get fined for parking in the wrong area). Not the fault if the hotel but the clock tower down the road rings quarter hourly throughout the day and is rather loud. Traffic noise can also be rather loud. And the gym classes across the road were audible. Positives: free cot and linen provided for our baby. The Sebel looks very nice from the outside. It is a short walk (800m) to the main shopping area in town, but it is a small city. In the elevators they local attractions and events which is how we heard about the farmers markets.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Harvest Farmers Markets held on Saturday mornings 8:30-12:30pm. Not the largest markets but there we found the best food we that ate during our time in Launceston.

Excellent Accomodation

We enjoyed every part of this hotel experience. Room was great, very roomy, comfortable, clean and modern. It was a surprise to find a fully useable kitchen and separate bedroom space. It was in walking distance from the CBD and staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing to fault.

Three days based at the Sebel Launceston

My wife and I were staying for three nights. I was working and she was have a break. We had to travel to Devonport and Spreyton for work and found Launceston a handy 80 minutes from our destination. One day I left the wife for two hours while off to an appointment. A dangerous move as the main shopping is a mere three blocks away. WE ordered in room dining twice and quality and variety od meals was excellent. Room was extremely comfortable only small minus was the AC did not heat all parts of the sapce. Highly recommended to any traveller, as we said on checking out, 'see you same time next year"
