Disappointing end to my trip to Tasmania

First time quest and more than likely wouldn’t return there to stay the night or for that matter visit and utilise their facilities i.e. Restaurants and casino. The rooms on the website looked bright and lively but once I got there it was quite dull and tired looking. Tip for travellers coming from the Mainland if you are going to stay at the Casino avoid Sunday’s their flag ship restaurant is closed on a Sunday. I’m not sure what genius came up with closing on Sunday since I would guess their tourist would be coming over for the weekend to experience all the casino amenities. The casino itself and the gaming area is tired and t me is simply a bigger version of the local pokies or RSL. I won’t even compare it to Crown Casino but even Jupiter Casino on the Gold Coast is 110 better on their worst day. On the upside the scenery was beautiful and the people in the towns we drove through were friendly and lovely. When I return to Tasmania next time I will be avoiding the Wrest Point Casino…. Which is very sad. VERY Disappointed Traveller in this instance, Overall 1/2 Star.

A couple getaway trip

This was our second visit to Hobart and we enjoyed staying in a different part of Hobart sandy bay. Pier one was excellent, amenities good, room service prompt and reasonable but buffet breakfast was very basic and below par. Rooms are ok but decor is tired and needs updating.

Disappointed

Definitely not deserving of it's star rating. Our water edge room bathroom smelled of urine. The room was dusty and the decor outdated. Would never stay again.

Great Location and Views

Check in was efficient and the Porter who carried our bags did not stay long enough to require a tip, first plus. Then we opened the curtains to a magnificent view of Mount Wellington and a corner of the Derwent estuary. When we approached our room I was a little horrified to find it was right opposite the lifts, having been very disturbed in other hotels by the constant noise of people coming and going, I was wary. However my fears were never realised, the sound insulation in this hotel is amazing, we heard not a sound from adjoining rooms or the lift lobby. A friend lent us a car for our stay and I was delighted to find that parking was free and convenient to access. as was the restaurant for breakfast.(although it was not free) The breakfast choices were fine, with the welcome addition of poached eggs to the hot buffet. Like all hotels they had those horrible conveyor belt toasters that never work once through and cremate the toast on a second pass, but you get used to that. Location is fine with a cab to the CBD about $11.00, the Suburb of Sandy Bay with a great choice of restaurants is a brisk 5 minute walk away. In all I would recommend the hotel as a good place to spend a few days when in Hobart. If pressed I would also recommend that you request a room such as ours with a mixed view, it was really great to watch the rising sun come down the mountain in the morning and to see the twinkling lights in the evening, together with the peaceful scenes of boats bobbing at their moorings.

Quick holiday

Stay was short 3 days staff was friendly and helpful every time we needed help or info.room was in old section but over looking the Derwent.ate mainly in the cafe section and prices are reasonable. Room service is expensive so eat down stairs. Hop on/off bus right outside .$30 for 3 day pass otherwise $10 for taxi into town . Overall the room was good and prices were reasonable and would recommend the hotel to anybody.

Great couples hotel

Loved our stay. Plenty of restaurant choices. Room was roomy and clean (even though we were in the older wing) with free wifi that worked well. Great views from a lot of the hotel.

Disappointed stay

First of all I have to say this is the second time that we have stayed in Wrest Point because the first time back in several years ago the experience was pretty good. This time we booked the water edge room only to find that it is NOT in the main tower, took a long walk through the hallway and several doors to get to it - the corridor had a funny smell and old looking room. There was not once mentioned during the booking that the water edge room was not located in the main towel, but it's located behind the main building, in a motor inn. The room service wasn't great either: one of the three days we didn't get any replacement of milk bath tub wasn't clean properly as there was still hair on the side of it after we have come back in the afternoon. Overall we were very disappointed with the stay and thinking that we may not return again.
