beautifully located at cradle mountain

The lodge is located at the best location at cradle mountain and you can see lots of wombats and little wallabies around the lodge and its just on the way to dove lake! Nice to join the night spotting animals tour, its a short tour but Ben the tour guard who's very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals around the area. The cabin is very comfortable and cozy. The only negative thing about the lodge is its price and food choice...really a bit pricy...restaurant is expensive and honestly food is not good. Best bring your own food or just drive down hill for food.

Comfy room but below standard restaurant

Upgrade our 2 pine pencil cabins to those with spa for free. Rooms are clean and comfy but the Highland Restaurant is beloe standard in both food and service with its fine fining price.

Comfy room but below standard restaurantr

Happy with upgrading to spa cabin for free. Very relaxing in a night with heavy wind and snow. However, the Highland Restaurant disappointed us for its food and service but a fine dinning price.

Disappointing stay

The hotel rooms are nothing like the pictures. The rooms were very dated and you could hear everything through the paper thin walls including every creak of the floor or every word said by our neighbours. The hotel clearly trades solely on its position but is not worth the cost to stay. We had 2 nights booked at the hotel but on arrival we were so disappointed by the room we decided to leave after 1 night. We would definitely recommend looking at the alternative places to stay close by.

Overpriced

For $440 a night I expected something much better. Very disappointed. Shouldn't have spent 3 nights and should have demanded a change as you couldn't move in the room (no. 90) without floorboards squeaking very loudly. Good sized rooms with bathroom fit-out good (with spa). Bed was comfortable enough. Sound travelled from next room (very annoying). Gas fireplace (with chopped wood outside door??) Sort of defeated the purpose! Tavern meals were OK, although not a lot of variation (same soup for 3 days). Restaurant meal superb. Meal and drink prices a bit exe, but expected. Nice atmosphere in reading rooms in main lodge. Staff was attentive and service good. Lucky it did't rain when we wanted to go to the main lodge (about 200 m) as I did not see any complimentary umbrellas. Nice short walks very close by with lots of wildlife (wombats, pademelons, echidnas). Of course much longer walks available in area. Very quiet and peaceful setting. Not a lot of supplies or product variation in "boutique" which was closed a lot of the time.

Perfect escape

The Lodge was very warm and inviting, as were the staff. The rooms were also very warm and inviting. Our choice to travel in the off season meant we encountered cooler weather which was ideal for this great get away. Just a bit wet underfoot but that didn't deter us in any way. The surrounding activities suited us both and the staff were very informative, and knowledgeable

Relaxing, refreshing long weekend escape

The location is superb! The fresh air, the resident wombats and wallabies, the relaxed environment and amazing food made this a fantastic 3 night getaway for my husband and I. We stayed in a Spa Suite which was very comfortable. Not sure what the other types of accommodation are like but I don't think I'd stay in anything less than a spa suite. While all the staff were very friendly we felt a bit more customer service would have been nice. For example, our flight was delayed so we didn't arrive until just after 9pm and the kitchen closes at 9pm. They were good enough to keep the kitchen open for us which was great so we went straight to the tavern when we arrived. However, when we needed to make our way to our cabin for the first time we were just given a map and had to navigate the several 100m of dimly lit boardwalks and paths in search of our cabin on our own - got lost once but eventually made it! I understand it was 10pm and most staff had gone home but I think being shown to your cabin on arrival is a minimum requirement for a 4 star establishment. That aside, it was a great weekend, and the walks and the scenery are spectacular and I'd recommend Cradle Mountain and Cradle Mountain Lodge to anyone. Oh, and the food in the Lodge's Highlands Restaurant is truly outstanding - a real highlight of our stay.

A real Cradle Mountain Experience

Location wise, I don't think you can get any better. Peppers is located at the foot on the National Park's entrance and even offers a beautiful (and easy) 20 min. walking track within the lodge grounds to those guests who aren't looking to pay for national park entry. The rooms are comfortable, though perhaps on the simple side. The log gas heater was a real treat, as too was the breakfast buffet. There was no television in our room - but the view more than makes up for it.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

The National Park entrance includes a ticket on the park's shuttle bus service - a convenient and scenic way to get to and from your hiking points.

Overpriced with rude staff in the restaurant

For the price (over $300 a night for the cheapest room), you would expect staff to fall over themselves to help you! Not so! We received no offer of assistance with our luggage, and had to carry it up the hill and around the block of about ten cabins before reaching our room! Then, they couldn't even keep our water full in the pricey restaurant- $60 for two courses of minuscule servings on massive plates! Any activities such as animal spotting were additional costs. It is still necessary to drive or bus into the national park to see /access Dove Lake and the Cradle Mountain walks. We will not be back!, but will try somewhere else next time in the hopes of finding friendlier staff!

Overpriced and snobby

High priced room with a gas fireplace and view of Cradle Mountain. The location is fantastic but staff were not helpful or very friendly. We had to carry our luggage to our room up the road from the lodge by several hundred metres, no help offered. Dinner was extremely overpriced with tiny portions! WiFi was an extra $5.50 per hour. Two weeks later and we are still waiting for the $100 'hold' they put on our credit card to be cleared up, although they charged us immediately for our purchases when we checked out. All resorts here require a drive or bus to access Dove Lake and the Cradle Mountain walks, so I would suggest trying somewhere else in the area if visiting Cradle Mountain.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Tavern has better meals and ambiance then the restaurant at the Lodge with its rude and inefficient staff- we asked at least three times for water in the restaurant, and after two bread rolls our plates were taken away before the meal arrived.
