Battery Point hotels
The charming suburb of Battery Point famously offers thousands of locals and returning holidaymakers year after year with perhaps the most authentic taste of bustling Hobart, a one-of-a-kind city nestled on the island of Tasmania. Located just outside the area’s inimitable central business district, vibrant Battery Point was named after the 19th century battery guns that were mounted along Hobart’s perimeters, serving as critical components of the cosmopolitan’s steadfast defence. Battery Point was historically one of Tasmania’s earliest European settlements, and a large number of ancient buildings spread throughout the charming area liken back to an Australia gone but not totally forgotten. Visit this most affluent and exciting district of perhaps Australia’s best kept secret city, and admire the country’s most towering homes, and high-class local eateries.
- Enjoy steaks and wild game cooked over a charcoal grill at the famous Ball and Chain Restaurant in Battery Point, where visitors will find one of the best wine cellars in Hobart.
- Experience a unique 19th century village atmosphere at Arthur’s Circus, a collection of mansions and cottages in Battery Point where elite Hobart soldiers and their families once lived.
- Check out the austere and impressive architecture of the St. George’s Anglican Church, designed by famed 19th century architect John Lee Archer.
Because Battery Park is such a well-kept secret, it’s not as easy to access as more crowded areas of Australia’s exciting city of Hobart. Hired or private cars provide easiest access to the area, as Hampden Road conveniently connects Battery Park to Hobart by Hampden Road. Visitors will find plenty of parking spaces in Battery Point along nearby streets. Holidaymakers can also take buses from the Hobart city centre to Battery Point. Once there, visitors can get around easily on foot.
