Barossa Valley General Information

As a world-class capital of wine production, the Barossa Valley is one of the top destinations in the state of South Australia and indeed, Australia. The region is home to a modest population of about 20,000 people, the vast majority of whom live in the handsome towns of Angaston, Lyndoch, Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Williamstown. A mere 60 km from Victoria Square, the prominent heart of South Australia capital Adelaide, the Barossa Valley is incredibly amiable to navigate as a tourist.

Wine of course, is the flagship attraction in the Barossa. The region cultivates a wide range of varietals, such as Semillon, Grenache, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. Shiraz is the grape that seduces most visitors however and without question, the Barossa’s particular brand of the buxom, voluptuous red is highly coveted in cliquey oenophile circles. Wine-centric junkets abound of course and of the fifty or so producers who ply the vines in the Barossa, most offer generous tours and tastings. Aside from quaffable wine, the Barossa also offers up a slew of superb restaurants, shops, cultural festivals and recreational pursuits both adventurous and tame.
