First time in Adelaide

Have never been to Adelaide and have heard lots of negative comments but my stay at the Grand Chifly was quite a suprise, all the staff that i had contact with where very heapful and nothing was to much for them. The hotel was a great place to stay with good sized rooms and great amenities, it was also very close to the City to walk. Overall had a great stay and would come back again.

Nice stopover before heading north

Booked hotel late in the piece which coincided with Tour Down Under weekend, so cheaper hotels were taken. The Grand Chifley was convenient for us driving into Adelaide and for taking tram into city centre. Free parking at the hotel.

Good location, but looking tired

My wife needed a disabled room as she was in a wheelchair as a result of a broken ankle - this was good, but the room was small, especially the doorway. The included breakfast was a bonus, and the staff very helpful, but the hotel need refurbishment. The swimming pool is in the hotel next door, and was very cold, even in October.

Weekend away - Male 3 mature adults

Ok if u are not expecting 4 star accommodation so get a budget deal & don't pay big price for this Hotel. Is bit dated & looking it's age in places but rooms neat & tidy, staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast bit limited compared to usual fare for major city accommodation. Is bit away from CBD but free tram operates so not real issue. We stayed on 1st floor & had noisy refrigeration unit which I guess cannot be helped BUT certainly the many, many cigarette butts outside in the balcony areas was unacceptable in this day and age! Not sure about the smoking rules in Adelaide but the room was non smoking & would have thought whole hotel area would be the same. The waft of both fresh & stale smoke was not pleasant. The other disappointment was the sister hotel just up the road The Chifley. I walked down to use the Business Lounge Internet because the Grand Chifley doesn't have that facility. It was being used & was told they would ring me when it was available......it never happened! It is little things like this that make a difference.

Good

We stayed here for a 4 day long weekend smack bang during the coldest days Adelaide experienced for something like 150 yrs. Being from the Gold Coast, we are not good with the cold but you would not have known it here. The room was very cosy and the reception area had a lovey fireplace. Our room was snug with two queen size beds which I am still not sure why as there were only the two of us. The bathroom was clean and the shower was great - hot hot water and a nice strong blast with a generous shower rose. Room had a iron and ironing board, mini fridge and foxtel on the TV ( limited channels) We did not stay in the room much as we had a jammed packed 4 days visiting the Barossa, Clare Valley, Hahndorf, Victor Harbour, Mclaren Vale, and sight seeing in the city. The staff were quite friendly. One night we went to the bar to have a drink and after three requests, the staff did not have the ingredients to make our drinks so they offered us a free drink each of anything we wanted. I had a glass of red and hubby had a whisky. They were very apologetic and friendly. Car parking is available. The room was serviced every day where our towels were replaced and the bed made. Any complimentary toiletries were also restocked. My one criticism is on the Friday & Saturday night there were extremely bright lights blaring into any crack that the curtains could not cover. This was annoying as it was so bright it woke me several times. Thursday & Sunday night they were not lit so I have no idea what that was for. The road traffic can be quite annoying while trying to fall asleep. We could also hear everything happening in the hallway and other guests letting their doors slam shut etc. overall , this place is very good value for money.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Have breakfast at Cafe9 and order the mushroom ragu, you can thank me later. Dinner at Press* is an experience you must have. There was an hour and a half waiting list for us but it was SO worth it - amazing. In fact Adelaide does food so well. Every mouthful we had was something else.
