Mixed bag

A wonderful location let down by very basic hotel functionality in the room, room cleaning/bed making every second day and a medicocre restaurant experience. Thala Lodge is 15 km out of Port Douglas, so bringing a few supplies for sundowners leaves one bereft of plates, knives etc. It is always hard to predict what a hotel will offer, but we were taken aback at the paucity of cutlery/crockery. Not even mugs for coffee! The restaurant, while promising much, the food was average, not bad, just banal. Finally room service just didn't happen on days 2 and 4! Having had a grumble, the surrounds were great, staff friendly and room itself was spacious and private. Oh - and TV access for anything but USB input was disabled - no AV or HDMI in.

Paradise found

Lovely staff and nice rooms, the food was great, but it's the location in lush rainforest that makes this place one of the best getaways I have had.

A special place

The hotel is in a beautiful location, surrounded by rainforest, coconut groves and beaches. The staff were lovely and the service was fabulous. It was so nice to be seprate from other guests. Some more effort could be placed on regenerating the rainforests.

Highly recommended

Great place to base yourself for activities between Cairns and Mossman, or to wind down in a luxurious setting away from work life. Loved the stretch of beach, design of the cabins, vista from the dining area, facilities and extensive gardens.
