2 night break

Booked a 2 level penthouse. In reality it is a single floor apartment with a roof section that has a small spa. Really stretching the truth on 2 level. The room was dark and felt like a cave. The bathroom is a shower in bath arrangement. Good luck if you are a little older. The bath height is quite high some some hurdling practice wouldn't go astray. The room we had faced onto the golf course (but of course you couldn't see the golf course). I am sure the pool view is the better option. The complex is starting to show its age and I wouldn't rate it as luxurious. For $650 (2 nights inc breakfast) I didn't think it was value for money and definitely wouldn't stay again. Oh and by the way, the included breakfast didn't cover cappuccino or hot chocolate. That was an extra $9. Really really hate penny pinching things like that. They must have taken a leaf out of the Hilton's play book. Not a way to bread customer satisfaction.

Fun in the tropics

Great hotel with friendly staff. Enormous apartment with 2 bedrooms which we didn't need as only 2 of us. Beautifully equipped kitchen except lacking oven gloves. Had a huge roof terrace with a private spa tub and barbecue. Because we had these facilities, we barbecued twice for supper. Luckily only noticed the huge roaches on our last night but it's part of living in the tropics. The place is kept very clean and bug spray is provided. There is a wonderful huge lagoon pool and some of the rooms overlook this which would be nice if you could get it. Only ate there once for lunch. It's a lovely atrium to sit in and view the pool but meal was okay not outstanding - pizza with prawns over cooked. Helpful advice was given by front desk staff re touring. Lots to do - Great Barrier Reef, Daintree rainforest and Atherton Tablelands that we hardly had time to enjoy the hotel!

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

If with kids or non swimmers, QuickSilver tours to Great Barrier Reef is good option as has permanent pontoon berthed at outer reef and offer views of reef in semi submersibles and walking helmet options. Also have helicopter rides.

Couples getaway

We visited Port Douglas for the Great Barrier Reef and weren't disappointed with that. However, we struggled to find a place that was a hotel and ended up booking the Pullman Sea Temple as the most luxurious option in town. We had a penthouse apartment which was well decorated and in generally good nick. The hot tub upstairs was good and well used by us. What we did miss was the sort of service you'd expect at a luxury hotel though - the pool bar shut at 6 and there was no real life in the resort in the evening. The one night we ate at the restaurant the food was ok but not spectacular and the service was terribly slow. The restaurant bar had no life. All the staff were very pleasant but somehow it just didn't hit the mark we'd expect from a 5 star place. As the Sea Temple is a long way from the main Port Douglas centre it was a bit of a drag to go to the restaurants and bars there (but all the ones we tried were good). There is a shuttle bus but quite expensive. Internet access was an added cost- these days I really feel it should be included. So, while we enjoyed our time in Port Douglas and nothing was wrong with the resort, somehow we ended up leaving just a little underwhelmed

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

About a 15 minute walk from the hotel is the Beach Shack restaurant and bar. Would thoroughly recommend this as somewhere to eat in relatively close proximity to the Sea Temple (15 minutes walk)

Its a beautiful place, with great

Its a beautiful place, with great staff, but so expensive. I'd definitely love to do this sort of resort again but I think I'd go off shore where you at least get some meals included.

We decided at the last moment

We decided at the last moment to go to Port Douglas for the night to celebrate my 50th Birthday which my husband was away for. It was absolutely beautiful. The room, the facilities and the staff were all exemplary. Don't know why we haven't booked there before. Will certainly be going back for a longer stay.

For a five star resort my Husband

For a five star resort my Husband and I were so disapointed. The resort has a great pool but that is it. The location is terrible, the service of a two star resort and the room service unetable. The rooms are very over priced and we will not be staying there again.

We went as a family and our room

We went as a family and our room opened directly into the pool which was fantastic for the kids. I would recommend this resort very highly, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and had everything you needed including a washing machine and dryer. Fantastic......
