What travelers to Mackay are saying

Mackay is a place in transition - moving from a farming and industry-based city to a family and tourist friendly place. There is some really good work based around accessible non-invasive spaces that allows people to explore most parts of the city.

Mackay General Information

The coast of Queensland, Australia is full of superb holiday destinations, from the Gold Coast to Townsville, Family Islands National Park to Lizard Island. Mackay, a small city of 80,000 people, is one of the most notable treasures in the state and a viable gateway to the immaculate Whitsundays and spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

Mackay roughly resides between two prominent Queensland hubs: Cairns is 735 km to the north and Brisbane is 975 km to the south. As a result, the city serves as a wonderful base from which to settle in and explore the gorgeous, contiguous area at large. Of course, Mackay is not without inherent charm and entices countless visitors to devote a few days of precious holiday time to enjoy what the city has to offer. While major landmarks are few and far between, the City Heart quarter of Mackay is a lovely Art Deco-laden district with several good restaurants, shops and cafés. Artspace Mackay is a pre-eminent gallery for regional talent and the Historical Farleigh Sugar Mill chronicles the city’s claim to fame legacy as a foremost cane sugar producer.
