City Botanic Gardens
The City Botanic Gardens is Brisbane's oldest public park, filled with life and colour thanks to an extensive native and exotic flora collection. The central location of the garden in the CBD means both office workers and visitors can readily enjoy its tranquil open spaces, which are broken up by sculptures, ornamental ponds, and walking tracks. The City Botanic Gardens grew out of a botanic reserve established in 1828 to supply food and officially opened to the public in 1855. Its first curator Walter Hill experimented with introducing new crops and plants to the area.
- Take the free hour-long guided walking tour of the City Botanic Gardens to learn about its history in Brisbane and the numerous plant species and features of the park.
- Walk through the gardens to see the many attractions scattered throughout, including the Bamboo Grove, Weeping Fig Avenue, Mangrove Boardwalk, and Walter Hill Fountain.
- Attend a festival or watch international music stars perform at Riverstage, an outdoor venue that hosts some of the biggest acts that pass through the city of Brisbane.
