Brisbane Chinatown hotels
Chinatown is a diverse and thriving location in Brisbane; clustered around a pedestrian mall on Duncan Street, it acts as a hub of Asian commercial and cultural activity. Signs are in both Chinese and English; stores and restaurants are multicultural. All through the year, festivals, touring musicians and dance troupes from Asia put on events in the area. While many Chinese-Australian residents have begun to wander away from Chinatown, this area still retains its cultural significance to the community at large. It's still a great place to visit if you want to get an immersion in the Asian-Australian experience.
- Sample from the numerous Asian restaurants in the Chinatown mall, known throughout Brisbane for good traditional food, at reasonable prices.
- Take a guided tour of Brisbane Chinatown offered by the Australian Chinese General Chamber of Business. These tours include grocery stores, tea tastings, and lessons about the history and making of silks.
- Relax with a professional Chinese massage; this traditional style of massage developed from Chinese medicine and focuses on pinching and pushing the acupressure points to improve health.
Brisbane's Chinatown is located in the Fortitude Valley area of the city. You can walk down Ann St. from the city centre to get there in about 15 to 20 minutes. Or catch a train and disembark at the Fortitude Valley Train Station. From the station, it's a short walk along Wickham Street to Chinatown. Roads in the Brisbane Central Business District are often one-way, and can make driving confusing. Luckily the city is well designed for walking, and walking a short distance in almost any direction will take you to a main road with a train station or bus stop!
