Dining

Ilkari Restaurant
Ilkari takes its name from the local Pitjantjatjara word for sky. Ilkari establishes its dining philosophy in the natural flavours of the finest produce available under the Australian sun. This reward comes to life with the addition of international flavours prepared with a sense of theatre at live cooking stations.

A personalised breakfast experience begins with an international menu and is completed by an egg and pancake station that allows the guest to define their very own signature dish. From delicate European inspired pastries to steaming Asian soups, an Ilkari breakfast is the perfect beginning to the day.

Ilkari continues to offer a tantalising menu of international flavours through lunch and dinner. An array of salads, vegetables, antipasto delights, pastas, Asian favourites, roasts and a grill selection abound with our chef's signature dishes enlivened by Indigenous flavours.

Mayu
For the Anangu people flavour is defined by the land. The Hotel's premier dining experience, Mayu takes the traditional and ancient Pitjantjatjara name for flavour and serves up a truly innovative and modern a la carte menu. The finest ingredients are transformed into inspired dishes before being served with your choice of Australia's foremost wines.
Walpa Lobby Bar
For centuries travel has been defined by the wind. Taking on the Pitjantjatjara name for wind, Walpa Lobby Bar instead provides a sense that your journey is complete - a sense of arrival. A relaxed setting for coffee and cake, casual lunch or dinner, a pre-dinner drink or night cap after a sunset tour, Walpa Lobby Bar is contemporary and welcoming.

Have LOW expectations

If you're familiar with a Motel 6, well, Sails is less impressive than that. So, don't expect a 5 Star Resort as labeled. What seems like a prison block is indeed your resort. The bathrooms were rusted and moldy. A used nail file from a previous guest on the floor our entire stay. The carpet certainly was not vacuumed regularly as there were tufts of hair and fuzz from who knows where. Recent rennovations were advertised and I assume this means new paintings were hung in the rooms? I certainly didn't see anything new about the entire place. The breakfast buffet, however, was wonderful. Sadly, there is not much choice in Uluru. All the places look the same and seem to be at a similar level of upkeep. So... if you're used to Hyatts and Shangri-Las... well, lower your expectations and prepare to get dirty. If you don't have kids and can afford the $1200 per night luxury tents... do that.

Family red centre trip

Initially we arrived at 3:30 and our room was not ready )although check in is advertised as 3pm) ...we did not get sent to a room until 4:30, only after we checked back at reception ourselves. The room we were sent to was already occupied, so we had complimentary drinks at the bar while the staff sorted out another room. We finally got into our room at 5:30...it was clean, neat and very comfortable. The manager sent is wine and chocolates to apologise..,the rest of our stay was great...good facilities, very friendly staff.

Added to our trip

There are limited accommodation options at Yulara: cheaper (including camping), mid-range and top of the range (Sails). We were out all day walking and enjoying the landscape so found it enjoyable to come back to such a nice place. Very clean all staff very friendly comfortable beds. We had a balcony which we did not use because it was a bit cooler (and too cool for us to use the pool although it looked great). Had some nice meals here. Buffet breakfast was included and a great range including a chef who cooked eggs and pancakes to order. Had buffet at night but, although good, was not worth the high price.

Tired property

At one time a nice place. It now needs a redo starting with the rooms and the pool area. For a major hotel brand it doesn't match up with other properties. I was fortunate in that I had a top floor room close to the main lobby. I had a good view of the pool and grounds and close to the elevator. Some of the rooms on the lower floors would look over a dirt road. I ate only one meal at the hotel--in the bar area and it was fine. The property is an easy walk to other places to eat and shop at more reasonable prices. I read a review a few weeks ago about one of the two self service laundry machines being out of order. The machine hadn't been fixed when I arrived. I think I was very fortunate with my room location and that made the hotel work for me. I would not have been happy with lower level rooms in different parts of the hotel. Unless management could guarantee a specific room and location I wouldn't pay the price to stay there again.

Excellent location

Excellent hotel, the restaurants were great but the highlight was the staff, they were absolutely fantastic. They made our trip worthwhile. They were friendly, gave excellent service and just couldn't do enough for you. We had a room with a terrace which was a waste of money as it was too hot to sit outside. The Aircon for this supposedly 5 star hotel was the worst ever. Apart from that it was great. Flo

Will be lovely after the renovations finish

Lovely hotel, spacious rooms, renovations happening while we were there so dining room closed and workmen and noise about during the day. Pleasant 5 min walk to town square for restaurants and shopping. Will be a true oasis in the desert once the renos are finished.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Outback BBQ was a very pleasant experience. You buy your meat and cook it yourself. Well stocked salad bar included. Sit at long community tables to eat. Very friendly.

better than average

Although they are undergoing renovations and there seemed to be no other guests, it was quite comfortable. Room was large and well appointed. Only disappointment was the costs and variety of food.

Thoroughly enjoyed the time there.

Thoroughly enjoyed the time there. Everything was excellent and the service from check-in to check-out was extremely friendly. What impressed me was the friendliness of Staff wherever we went. They greeted us and checked on any needs we had....not often one finds that at hotels. It was my second visit and I will definitely return and definitely stay at Sails in the Desert.

Everything is very good. The

Everything is very good. The only thing is a bit pricey. Everyone was friendy and service was great. We had brekky and all were delicious. The room is spacious and comfortable. The hotel is simple and modern design, I liked it. There were many bugs in room I encountered but maybe any hotel in Uluru had it. Plus they put a note about bugs so it was a good warning.
