Wonderful, wonderful Wagga Wagga

Nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, with a rich indigenous heritage and vibrant contemporary setting, Wagga Wagga is the perfect inland escape. From mountain ranges jutting up in the distance and providing the scenic backdrop to some of the finest Aussie wineries, Wagga is the perfect base from which to explore the NSW Riverina.

For a cracker selection of local handmade creations, take a stroll through the Muddi Boutique Markets, relax with a picnic in the park at the Victory Memorial Gardens(mind the geese don’t snatch your food!), or just tag along for a free tasting of some of the Riverina’s most sought after labels at the Yerong Creek Winery. Wagga Wagga is often a stop-off point on the Sydney to Melbourne drive, but it’s got far more going for it than that.

2. Bolong Farms For all budding Jamie Duries, this one-acre nursery is your Garden of Eden!

6. Wiradjuri Walking Track This 30km (19mi) track takes you all around the Wagga region (don’t worry, there are plenty of exit points along the way if you want to skip out early for a schooner).

1. Charles Sturt University Winery Not just the home of drunken Wagga students – the winery makes a top-notch variety of plonk.
