Lovely view, shame about the service

I booked at least partially because of the view and in that I was not disappointed. However I found the service to be more like Fawlty Towers than a five star hotel - confused, inattentive and impersonal. The concierge desk were the exception - they were helpful and polite, and hence there was always a queue there. The location is great for views, not so great for trying to find somewhere to eat on a Sunday night or if you dislike steep climbs.

Experience

Planned a one night stay in the city to celebrate Wedding annivesary. Did not realise that the Altitude Restaurant was closed on Sunday's. It was that experience I was looking for and unfortunately it did not work out. I should have done a lot more research and booked restaurant in advance. Overall the hotel is in excellent location and has wonderful staff.

Total let down

First Reception staff were very rude to my daughter, then found out the Horizon Club with views of the Opera House was closed. The renovations on the Club floors meant there was a terrible chemical smell in our room and in the hallway. The bath was dirty and the beds hard. When I complained my message was not passed onto a Manager . After a stressful time we left and moved to the Westin which was wonderful. There was no follow up from the Manager after my complaints.

Disappointing . Let down.

This is my third stay at the Shangri La and I was so looking forward to returning . I had booked a Club room again and looked forward to the spectacular views from the Club. My daughter checked in before me and I rather than Club room check in as usual she was treated very rudely by Reception. Then she was told the Club was closed being renovated. When I complained nothing was passed to the Manager. The bath in our room had hair in it and the bed was hard . I wish I had stayed at the Westin . Could have had an Executive Suite for less than the Shangi La room.

Simply superb

Superb, awesome.... these are the words that I would like to use to describe our experience. We went for the 'Deluxe Grand Harbour View' as we wanted to enjoy the beautiful view. While a little pricey, what we got was completely worth it. A breathtaking view of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The room was classy and big at 41 sq ft. The interiors was tastefully decorated. The staff as always were very courteous and friendly. My daughters are still playing with the kangaroo toys that they presented. As our flight was late, we asked for a 2 hr extension in our stay which they readily agreed. Simply superb day for us.

Being a tourist in your own city...

Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy the views that Sydney has to offer. And what better place than the Shangri-la. Trouble free stay topped off by a lovely meal at Altitude restaurant. Highly recommended.

Most Enjoyable Weekend.

Arriving at the Shangri-La on Friday afternoon about 5pm we were given our key and we preceded to the Grand Harbour View Room on the 23rd floor. The room and separate bathroom were very clean and from the moment we walked in the views blew us away.Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Circular Quay and all the water Just breathtaking. From this as our base we walked to the Rocks Markets on Saturday lunch time then walked into the city and did some shopping. We never had to use our car the whole time we were there we were able to walk everywhere. Plenty of Cafes and Bars aound this area. All so handy We loved it had a great weekend

Wonderful Harbour Views

To get the best views you will have to book a Grand Harbour view room or above. The rooms are very spacious with a great bathroom, unfortunately the bed I had was not very comfortable, the mattress needs replacing in room 1911. The restaurant on level 36 (Altitude) has magnificent views, it is a pity the service & food is not of the standard expected of a fine dining establishment.

Faultless

An amazing stay. Faultless. Personalised, fast service. And the only hotel that didn't charge us extra for having a third person stay in our room. The Harbour View rooms are absolutely worth the money. An unparralleled view of one of the most amazing harbours in the world. Slpurge. It's worth it.
