Needs upgrade

This Hotel is old and basic. The beds are comfortable but bathrooms are old and have mould in grout. Carpet is grubby.First room was musty and had condensation on ceiling so asked to be moved and second room better. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bus is just 2 minute walk and 10 min ride so that is good. If you want a hotel that is basic but cheap then this is ok

Great location. Needs to be updated.

For me, the location and price determined the hotel I was choosing. The Rydges Camperdown is in need of some updating to the rooms, but the staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. The hotel is within walking distance of public transportation and just a 20 minute bus ride from downtown Sydney. The area is safe and well lit. Overall, I would recommend this hotel but remember you are not staying at a five-star hotel.

Quite Ordinary

This hotel is quite old and has undergone a number of renovations. Its location close to the city - short bus ride - and near RPA and Sydney Uni is definitely a plus. The bathroom was old and tired especially when the hair dryer doesn't work, there is mould growing in the grout of the shower tiles and there is no plug for either the bath tub or the hand basin. The hotel provides parking at a rate of $22.00 per night which is outrageous given that one has to negotiate a vertible forest of concrete pillars. I felt quite ripped off having to pay that much for parking that required the patience of Jobe and assistance from my wife outside the car to complete and I had only a small vehicle. I do not like hidden charges when I pay for my accommodation. Almost everyone pays for their room with a credit card; few people carry sufficient cash on their person. Why not include the Bank's Merchant Fee in the cost of the room, then staff would not have to advise guests that there will be a charge for use of a credit card - move into the 21st century for heaven's sake?

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Use the bus to travel to and from the city. it is only a short walk down to Parramatta Road. There you will find a newsagent who sells the cards you need to pay for your journey. Some buses are card only so cash is not accepted by the driver.

handy location, clean & modern

was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely room, given the great price. The beds & pillows were comfortable, the linen fresh & modern. Furniture in the room was timber, older style. Bathroom, all white modern & clean . The proximity to Uni or hospital was great. Also we got the bus into the city across the road. The staff were excellent, very friendly . I would definitely stay here again!

Tired old hotel, needs a re-vamp

I've been staying at this hotel (under it's various names) for 15 years. It used to offer good value for money but it's been going down-hill for the last 5 years or more. The bed rooms & bathrooms are old and badly in need of a lick of paint. The internet connection in the room NEVER works first time - on my last 3 visits i have had to call the hotel's Service Provider myself to enable a connection. The front desk staff are generally disinterested. On this trip I checked out and about 6 hours later I remembered I had left my electric shaver in my room. I called the hotel and was told they had it in their lost property - but they hadn't bothered to call me, even tho they had my contact details. How hard can it be to offer that little bit of service.

not worth it

Paid $199 a night, but still no breakfast included. Had to pay an extra $27 for an ordinary breakfast. The bathroom requires a full renovation, wash basin broken and the corridors were smelly....

Tired and dated

the staff were friendly .The decor was atrocious, the carpet in both hallway and rooms drab and looked unclean and unkempt. The rooms had poor lighting, low ceilings ,noisy airconditioning and very dated bathroom with shower rose situated in bath.Toilets were I suppose hygienic but bowl ceramics was stained and marked.I have recently been away for 3 weeks to Victoria and Tasmania staying at apartments ,B&B's and hotels and all were without exception far superior to the Rydges for a much more reasonable price.I explored several other options in Missenden road whilst staying there and all were superior to Rydges and better value. lastly I parked my car downstairs( in their underground parking area ) and when I brought it up it had a thick adherent ? cement dust on so that I had to get an immediate clean nearby down Parramatta road..all in all a thoroughly disappointing stay

Convenient location to city

We stay because the location is convenient to the city by frequent buses and to good eating experiences in Newtown, a short walk away. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and are quiet. The furnishings are showing their age. Parking is costly and you are advised to have a small car as it is difficult to negotiate the basement parking area.
