I'll be back!

This hotel was great value for an inexpensive two-star hotel in a fantastic and convenient location. I booked on-line well ahead of my 7 day stay and got a really good price. The room was small, comfortable, clean and quiet, and met my expectations (as we had already read reviews and knew what to expect). My friend's rooms were smaller than mine and did not have adequate hanging space (only a short space above the small fridge) and a couple of issues with the toaster etc., but staff responded to requests to fix things quickly and with good grace. The small rooms have the bed against the wall and not much space to move about, so this hotel is best for people who expect to be out and about during their stay. The room was serviced only once during the week, but that is okay with me - I think daily replacement of towels and sheets is a waste and adversely affects the environment through excessive laundering. The shared bathrooms were always clean and with two bathrooms on the floor, I didn't have to queue to use it. The garbage trucks in the laneway at the back are noisy when they come in just after 6.00 a.m., but as I was already up, it didn't bother me at all - this only affects rooms at the back of the building. In all, I'd say this place is a real gem.

Sport event

The room was very small, and the bathroom facilities became very unpleasant as multiple users omitted to clean up after themselves throughout the day and night. The reception staff were lovely.

Perfect place for your budget

We young couple with a 3.5 yo kid stayed in a balcony room for 4 nights. The lodge provide every things for a basic life we can save some money with the microwave and private refridge. The toilets are very clean and cared for frequently. The lodge provide you with enough towel, soap and shampoo for your stay. Staff are kind and helping. The short street have everything you need: Woolworth, banks, ATM, restaurants, pharmacies, laundries, bus stops, ect. You can walk to many places: art museum, botanic garden, sydney habour, and even we did walk to darling habour to visit the aquarium, wax museum, and the st Mary's church, the national museum, Hyde park, and the tower eye and City Hall are all on your way. I am proud with my husband that I have chosen the Macleay lodge and would definitely recommend it to my friends. Tips: using share bathroom would not be any trouble when you look around for other toilets in the house.

Good value in Potts Point for Solo Traveller

I have friends in Potts Point and I like to stay somewhere close where I can have my own overnight accommodation space. This Hotel/Lodge is perfect for that purpose. The room was quite small, but as a solo traveller it was adequate for the purpose. Apart from sleeping I wasn't spending much time there. The bed was very comfortable, the linen was very clean and the location extremely handy. There were 2 bathrooms situated close to the unit I was in, but one was extremely small and difficult to shower in because of that (and I'm an average sized person) which wasn't fabulous, but the other was fine. Both were very clean. The staff were very friendly and co-operative and I will certainly have no hesitation in staying again in the future.

A little dingy, otherwise great

Friendly staff, comfortable room (I booked a double), and really good location, however some things were a little gross. On our first night, we saw a baby cockroach scurrying across the bed sheets. Gross. The shared toilet/shower is comically small - painful on the knees and very claustrophobic. Avoid if you are over a size 12 or taller than 5 foot nothing, or have any sort of physical disability.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Really tasty and cheap Indian food is a short walk up Macleay Street - look for the pink-painted walls. You won't regret it!

Good Location & Value for Money

My wife and I enjoyed our 5 days stay in Macleary Lodge in Sydney. There were many ethnic eateries and a supermarket nearby. We enjoyed watching the birds in Fritzroy Garden and the train station was within walking distance.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are many items you can get from the supermarket nearby for snacks and meals as the room had a microwave oven and fridge. Very helpful if you want to watch TV or rest in the room after visiting various places of interest.

My worst experience ever!

I never realised that I had to share a common toilet with guests of 6 rooms (can be up to 15 people), no lift, no room service at all, there was no contact from the room to the reception (I had the option of climbing down three stories or use my Mobile phone on International roaming). I shall probably don't use Hotel.com ever in future.

Pretty good for a lodge

Got a private room and must say it was pretty good for a backpackers lodge. Definately much better than some of the other rubbish in Sydney. Room was clean, shared bathroom was clean. Towels and such were provided. Will be using again.

Affordable

Good hotel in very good location within walking distance of CBD. Only issue was room was very hot as it didn't have aircon but the supply of fans made it bearable. You get what you pay for.
