Wonderful chill out time

We took this opportunity to discover the Intercontinental Sydney while looking for a way to treat ourselves after a somewhat traumatic few weeks. A car accident, a cancer removal and then a cancelled holiday overseas - what else could we do but indulge ourselves with our first visit to this iconic hotel. Welcomed by a cherry chatty concierge, early check in (thank you) a fantastic corner room on the 27th floor (thank you) with an amazing view of both the city, gardens and the harbour (thank you) we set off to do a spot of shopping. What a great start to the day! Dinner at night was perfecto and then the day was done. A great sleep, a lazy breakfast, a few top sport stars to keep us guessing and our visit was over way too soon. We will be back - thank you to all concerned for a wonderful 24 hours.

Birthday weekend - disappointing!

When you plan two special nights at a 5-star hotel I guess you expect everything to be wonderful ... and it's very disappointing when things don't live up to expectations. The room was nice, with a lovely view over the eastern harbour. The bathroom however was not really up to scratch - very small with an awkward 'shower-over-the-bath with shower curtain' arrangement. We booked a la carte dinner for one night but when we arrived not only did they not have our booking, but we were informed there was no a la carte available that night! Two staff members went out of their way to try to make it up to us and we thank Stephen and Tom for their assistance. This hotel is also really up against it with not enough space for a decent arrival/departure and reception area. When we checked out and needed a taxi, the experience was like Saturday morning shopping at Woollies! Certainly not a 5-star hotel experience.

Very enjoyable weekend. Stayed at the Intercontinental for the Blackmore Bridge Run with my sister. All the staffs at the hotel were pleasant and helpful. Received complimentary wifi and late check out for my IHG membership even though I did not book directly with hotel.

When hitting the Rocks is a good thing

A last minute booking at the Intercontinental I was really impressed from the moment my taxi arrived. The hotel is based round an old building with lots of character with tasteful modern additions including the tower with the bedrooms. Common areas are impressive and careful thought has been given to the conversion. The central bar area is wonderfully done with lots of original features kept. Made use of the facilities including the rooftop gym & swimming pool and the views are impressive. Some rooms view the Harbour Bridge & Opera House but even the city views on the other side are good Location is second to none with Circular Quay & the Rocks area a five minute walk away making it a great base for a visitor. My weekend was made and my estimation of the hotel was raised when I realised that the French National Rugby team were staying there - as my reason for being in Sydney was to watch the game. Full marks
