Harbour Bridge hotels
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, a steel arch affectionately known as “The Coathanger,” spans across the Sydney Harbour, connecting the North Shore to Sydney’s central business district. Appearing in many films’ establishing shots of Sydney, the Harbour Bridge, along with the Sydney Opera House, is one of the most iconic images of the city. When the bridge first opened in 1932 it became the world’s widest long-span bridge, a title it still holds to this day. At night the Harbour Bridge transforms into a colourful display of lights, creating a stunning display on Sydney’s skyline.
- Climb the 200 stairs of the southeast pylon of Sydney’s Harbour Bridge for stunning views from the lookout.
- Brave the windy conditions for unmatched panoramic views of Sydney with Bridge Climb, a service offering tours up and down the structure of the bridge for those who are daring.
- Visit Sydney in October for Breakfast on the Bridge, an annual event during which the bridge is closed for thousands of people to picnic and listen to live music.
The iconic Harbour Bridge connects two of Sydney’s busiest and most important districts, so it is likely that you will see it or cross it at some point during your visit. The best way to enjoy the spectacular views from the bridge is by traversing the pedestrian walk that crosses from Milson’s Point on the lower north side to Miller’s point on the side of Sydney’s central business district. Visitors arriving by plane should use Sydney’s Airport Train to get to the city centre, a trip that will only take about thirteen minutes.
