A great place to stay in Canberra

Centrally located in the Melbourne Building on Northbourne Ave. We had a studio apartment that was well set up. We ate in for breakfast and cooked dinner. As well we tried the Italian restaurant adjacent [really good] and an Irish pub. Parking for the hotel seems limited but we had booked it so we were happy. The Canberra Centre [mall] was nearby which had Myers and DJs as well as heaps of specialty stores. Around the Centre there were a number of food and drink options and supermarkets. Buses to the footy leave from that area. So combined with the Peruvian/Inca exhibition we had a great week-end. Would definitely recommend it.

Letter to Quest.

Long weekend in Canberra. To me, the main aim of seeking accommodation whilst travelling is to ensure a good night's sleep. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction. I booked the apartment online, well in advance, for a fully serviced apartment. On the Saturday we returned from a day in Canberra to find our room had been serviced and that a note advised there would be no service the following day (or on the Monday) due to the long weekend. There was no advice about any refund for the service portion of the tariff. I believe that, having paid for a serviced room, I should be entitled to some refund. The note also advised that we had been provided with extra toiletries, however, we did not have either sufficient toilet paper or coffee sachets and when we asked for these the young woman on reception seemed affronted and inconvenienced by our request. We did not enjoy our stay. The apartment had several maintenance issues, including items that were deteriorating (lamp shades and a blind in the bath room), pillows so compacted they were not comfortable to sleep on and a bottom sheet that didn't fit the bed. Indeed on pulling back the covers (at something like 3am) we discovered the sheet that we lay upon had been laid at least 30cm short of the end of the mattress! On adjustment, we found the sheet was barely the length of the mattress. We were in apartment 12 over the back lane way. This room is noisy. Over 3 nights we were woken at many different times. On Friday and Saturday evenings particularly, we were kept awake until about 2am by various activities outside, including general passers-by, a group of young men shouting and vomiting under the window, music from a nearby bar being played loudly, and a delivery truck that took over 20 minutes to throw sacks of something around a metal flat bed. Each morning from about 5am or so, we suffered successions of garbage trucks picking up dumpsters, and people with leaf blowers that apparently needed to be used early on a Sunday morning. All this in spite of being told when we checked in that the place was mostly empty. Why then were we given the apartment over a noisy lane way at the far end of the complex, rather than a quieter apartment with a balcony? My wife and I returned home yesterday in need of a good night's sleep. What was supposed to be a relaxing weekend in Canberra was spoilt by the poor quality accommodation at your establishment, for which we paid full tariff. Surely the absolute minimum requirement for any accommodation is that it should be quiet and comfortable? This apartment was neither. We noted in the local paper that these apartments are all for sale. It would be disingenuous to not make note of the detractions for all of the rear-facing apartments regarding both the late night and early morning servicing of the restaurants, and the general late night revelling of Friday an Saturday nights. I suspect that the apartments have not been profitable to Quest, and that you intend to pass off your overheads to unsuspecting investors.

Italian restaurant on the corner is very over priced and pretentious. The LemonGrass Thai around the corner is far better and half the price. Also Playground Cafe for Tapas over near the Canberra Centre is fantastic!

Certainly more than 3 star accommodation!

Having just come from an apartment in Melbourne that was rated 4 star but seemed more like a 2 star, the Quest 1 bedroom apartment was heaven! Surrounded by restaurants, very clean, modern apartment, comfy bed, I couldn't fault the apartment at all. Would definately stay again.
