Nice Old World Hotel

Have stayed at the Hotel before a couple of years ago, but was a bit disappointed this time, i.e. no free wifi, no included breakfast, prices in bistro have gone up significantly, although there was still plenty of free parking. We stayed in a loft room which was quite nice and the courtyard grounds are very pretty. Breakfast was very expensive at $23 each, hence we ate out. The bistro/bar seems to be attracting a 'rough' element which wasn't pleasant.

Great Location

Room was great, noticed dusting on furniture has not been done. Would of liked 2 comfortable chairs & small table would of been just nice. Shower head dripped a bit all night even though we tried to turn it off. Can't remember seeing a ramp at front entrance... would be a little more friendlier when carring luggage out to car out front. Side footpath of hotel, plants/bushes needed pruning, as it was hard to stay on footpath when walking down to heart of Canberra shopping centre. Was great location, we walked to see a lot of the sights and didn't have to worry about parking the car. When we did drive, everything was close by for the reasonable price for the room. would stay again!

A very Homely Canberra hotel

On Viewing my allocated room, I found the Bed and Bathroom had to be accessed via a `semi spiral' stairway, which was unacceptable as an `older' visitor. However, the duty manager and reception staff readily allocated me a more suitable and very nice room at the front of the hotel. Thank you Mercure, - I give you a `YES'

Location and price were winners

Room was small and there was noise from nearby a/c units, etc. The bathroom was modern and spacious to offset this. Even better were the location and price.

Nice place, close to restaurants

The hotel is pretty old but generally charming. Local to restaurant precinct and short walk back to was refreshing after a session in town. Lounge rooms adjoining bar were very comfortable for night caps.

bathroom & shower

The bathroom was designed for wheelchairs which is fine but means there was no shower screen and the shower head had to be aimed at the wall to avoid wetting the entire room. The floor waste was unable to cope with the water and without a screen and hob water ran across the floor and nearly out the door. Also, the water was tepid at best. Not very satisfactory but the rest of the room was fine and the hotel was very good in general. I would stay again if I was assured the shower issues would be experienced again.
