The hotel is clean, comfortable and offers free internet access. The food in the restaurant is outstanding although some of the waiters are a little brusque. - 03-Dec-2007 While the Helka Hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, it is very modern on the inside. The rooms aren't luxurious - they are more like a college dorm room. That said, for me, they had everything I needed including air conditioning. The breakfast at the hotel was plentiful and with great variety. The internet terminal was rarely occupied and high-speed. The hotel's location was excellent -- within easy walking distance to the central train station (also the locaiton of the Finnair bus stop). The walk down to the Esplanade and Market Square is easily accomplished in about 20 minutes. Recommended!- 26-Jul-2007 This is a property that has been modernised, and some areas look quite attractive. I found the restaurant area used for breakfast to be far too school-canteenish, but the entry to it is modern and impressive. The rooms also vary. The first one I was offered had no space to lay my suitcase, the second was far more spacious.
The shower cubicle would be a challenge for larger people, and the tv had NO English language channels, which the management were not aware of (?). The excuse was the government are changing the system to digital and it had been delayed, an unconvincing excuse as that did not apply to another hotel i stayed in.
Overall, the hotel was okay and the price was good. Breakfast was okay, but the hot food was cold. Most things were average. Improvements have been made but I was surprised when told they had finished the work. The location is 10 minutes walk from the main railway station, with a link to the airport. For the price, i'd probably stay there again.- 04-Jun-2007 |
