Introduction

Welcome to Rovaniemi - the capital of Finnish Lapland! Enjoy spending some time in the Arctic Circle! Practice driving and steering a snowmobile and a car on ice, as you enjoy 4 days learning to drive in icy conditions! This tour also includes a visit to the reindeer farm, where you will learn reindeer husbandry and how important these animals are in Lapland. You will learn how to harness a reindeer and ride a reindeer sledge, and if you pass, you will receive your reindeer license!

Departure Dates: Daily - 2 January to 15 April, 2005 Departure Point: Rovaniemi airport Departure Time: Upon arrival at Rovaniemi airport (please advise your flight arrival details when booking) Return Details: Tour concludes with drop off at Rovaniemi airport on Day 4 Itinerary: Day 1: Rovaniemi Arrive at Rovaniemi airport where you will be transferred to your hotel in the city centre. Enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation. Day 2: Winter Driving School After breakfast, take a short walk to the safari club where you are provided with all necessary thermal clothing. Your guide will instruct you how to drive a snowbmobile and then let you practice on the vehicles. Enjoy a drive through the snow covered landscape to the winter driving track where you will leave your snowmobile and get into a car. Here, for 4 hours, learn the necessary skills of driving in winter conditions. Enjoy an outdoor lunch before returning to the city centre on your snowmobile. Enjoy a warm sauna, dinner and overnight accommodation. Day 3: Reindeer Farm After a hearty buffet breakfast, a day of full winter fun begins! Meet your safari guide at the hotel and travel to the safari house, where your snowmobiles are waiting for you on frozen ice, ready to be started. Steer the strong machine to a reindeer farm where you will learn the importance of reindeer husbandry as a livelihood in Lapland. Even though these reindeer are semi wild animals, roaming free in the woods and forests, they are collected together twice a year for reindeer roundups. At the farm, see the reindeer being trained for sled pulling and reindeer races. The reindeer herder will demonstrate how to harness a reindeer and how to ride a reindeer sledge, then it's your turn to try! You will find the animals sympathetic and somewhat self-willed, but loveable. After you have successfully passed your reindeer driving test, you will be presented with your reindeer driving license! The day is not finished yet! Enjoy a typical reindeer herder's lunch consisting of reindeer stew and mashed potatoes served in one of the farm's Lapp tents or huts around the open fireplace. In the late afternoon return to your hotel where you will have time for a relaxing sauna visit, before enjoying dinner and overnight. Day 4: Rovaniemi airport After enjoying breakfast, be transferred to the airport where your tour will conclude
