A Pooch’s Paradise

Royal PetsEveryone has heard that dog is supposed to be man’s best friend. Many treat their dogs as well, if not better than their children, but how much are you willing to invest in your pet? For some, the answer is whatever they can afford, even if it means spending money to board their pet in luxury while they go on their own vacation. Knowing this, many countries are cashing in, and creating ‘doggie hotels’, the ‘in’ place for canines while their owners are away. Here are some of the best of these around the world.

Located outside of Te Awamutu in New Zealand, Hydropaws is not only a luxury location to board your pet, but it’s also a rejuvenation center for dogs that goes as far as offering hydrotherapy for their injuries. This is just the tip of the iceberg on what they offer though; there are massage facilities, personal trainers, and even weight loss programs specially suited for your canine companion. Each of the 10 kennels are heated, offer comfortable beds, and personal runs, which are of course considered sun decks here. Hydropaws is located on 300 acres of beautiful countryside, so their twice daily walks are enjoyed by the four legged guests.

Wag HotelWag Hotels
There are two Wag Hotels, the first in Sacramento, California was so popular that they opened a second in San Francisco and are currently building a third in Sunnyvale . Unlike Hydropaws, Wag Hotel is not a kennel; it is set up like an actual hotel. Each dog, or cat, is placed in its own room, with a television and bed provided. The hotel even offers a pool for its guests. The staff set up play dates with other guests, based on the temperament of the animals; they offer massages and even have a menu of other services that can be provided for an additional fee.

Canine Country Club
Canine Country Club in Cornwall, England is proud to be the first of its kind. Set up similar to a hotel, the country club has 15 rooms, some of which are even considered penthouse suites, with full sized beds to ensure the comfort of your pooch. Their locations offer views of the hills in Devon and Cornwall , and are situated along both the Tamar and Torridge Rivers. The glass doors in the rooms lead out to ‘garden rooms’ for the guest’s enjoyment, and they also offer hydrotherapy to ease aches and pains.

Samford Pet Resort
Not far from Brisbane, Queensland Australia, Samford Pet Resort is located on 40 acres in the Samford Valley . The beauty of the area is appreciated by its canine and feline guests when they are escorted around the grounds. The luxury suites here have the choice of televisions or aquariums for entertainment, and are equipped with trampoline beds, pillows and chairs to offer a variety of lounge areas. Staff provide opportunities for ‘bush walks’ to ensure proper exercise, and cater to your pet’s taste buds with meals, each is prepared fresh daily.

Dog pool With the abundance of personal care and luxurious amenities offered at each of these sites, it’s a wonder that humans don’t chose them for their own stays, but each of these is for animals only, human contact for your companion is through loving staff, which means when you return from vacation, your pet will not only not feel neglected, but be careful, it may balk at going home after being spoiled so thoroughly.

There are more hostels such as those for dogs than there are for cats. I was told in the hotel I stayed in that they did not allow pets and my son did not ask before we went. I had to leave my cat with a friend, I would think cats deserve such luxuries too, they are much more companionable, I don’t like dogs.

Pet lodgings sound better than taking my dog along. I love woofer but I am not taking him on a business trip with me because even pet friendly hotels have etiquettes and woofer forgets everything I taught him the moment he is out of the house.
