Pro: Very central location. Subway at end of street (for A,C,E and LIRR lines). Within walking distance of Broadway and Times Square, Empire State Building, Macy's - one block away - and many other attractions. Quiet, especially back rooms - but see Con - only six rooms - good sized - per floor. Breakfast included - very good. Free wifi. Con: Decor dated - could do with a refurbishment - but Fitness Centre area in basement much better. Ice machines on three floors including the 4th, outside rooms 405 and 406 - noisy and annoying. Business Centre overstated, comprising one computer terminal and printer! - but free to use. Street - West 35th - outside busy, dirty and unappealing. But overall, a good place to stay and we'd use it again.

Booked and paid for a room with two double beds. Only got a standard room with one db. Front office staff would not help. They sent up an air mattress with no Donna so I had to call again. Not happy at all considering I paid good money for this NYC experience. The TV was on a side wall and not in front of bed so was a real nuisance. The room clock was not lit up so could not see time in the dark. Just a dreadful experience. Will not return here!

Clean, and renovated room. Basic, adequate breakfast, handy location.

Location of hotel was very nice, walking distance to many attractions. Hotel rooms were somewhat small, but accomodating. Some tv stations didn't work very good, and toilet handle stuck, but just needed minor attention. Breakfast was good, don't wait until the last minute, it's very busy. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Until a few years ago, I traveled to NY for work often. Always staying at my fav hotel that I loved. This trip was a mother/son pleasure trip and that fav hotel was now too costly. The Wingate was 1 block away and FABULOUS! I have already recommended the Wingate to friends that still travel to work in NY. The outside was clean and neat with tables outside that would be fun to sit at during warmer weather. We were met at check-in by a most pleasant man! We were very early and had planned to leave our bags and return later, but he made a call and said a room would be available in a few minutes. It just needed to be inspected. In less than 10 minutes we were in our room and settled in. The room was fashionably decorated, clean with great beds. The bathroom (my greatest concern) was spotless, well lit , had 2 mirrors, and HOT water! There was no outside noise, not even the garbage trucks I had grown accustomed to! The location is great for sight seeing, easy to walk to most midtown sights. The breakfast was nice - hot and cold food- everything that we needed. The male staffers ( with the exception of 1) were always a pleasure ( Bryan and Paul 2 that I can name) the females not so much. The view was not great-( a brick wall) but we were not there to look out the window. The batteries in our remote were dead- but they were replaced faster than any call to housekeeping I have experienced in any hotel.. I have stayed in all level hotels and the Wingate is not intended to be a luxury hotel, but they do a great job working to be their best.. If you are "nitpicky" about your hotel room- I think you will be delightfully pleased, we were!
