When you first walk into the W in Times Square, your immediate reaction is "I booked the right hotel." The first floor is classy and modern and just plain beautiful. Then you take the elevator up to the 7th floor which serves as not only the check-in/concierge/whatever/whenever area, but also a bar and lounge. Once again- very, very cool. My room was ready for me and my three traveling cohorts at 9am even though check-in was at noon, which was awesome. We didn't have to wait around for a single second. Wifi at the W is not free unless you sign up for a starwood membership thing- which I did. However, the internet is very slow and we had to continuously keep logging into it, which became very annoying. Now- here is where things get a little ugly. The woman who checked us in told us we were in a spectacular room on the 56th floor (the top floor is the 57th) and blah blah blah. This really hyped us all up because everything about the hotel so far was amazing, I mean, what could go wrong? Then we went up to our hotel room. Lo and behold, a tiny two-bed box. I mean, it was literally shocking. There was hardly any room for the extra bed we needed (which has a $35 per night fee that we managed to get waived), which still only left us with three beds. So, I slept on the "couch"/"lounge chair" that was by the window. The "couch"/"lounge chair" was dirty and visibly worn out and very uncomfortable. Other than that, I did have a fantastic view. There is no doubt about that. The view was ahhhhhmazing. Plus, another hotel was facing us and people watching was fun. However, if we didn't always have the blinds open, the room would have felt even smaller than it already was. We were literally climbing on top of each other just to give each other space. Yikes. And there was a limited amount of hangers in the closet and only one drawer. Uhm? Another problem I had was the bathroom. The wall of the bathroom that faced the rest of the room was like...frosted glass. So you could see the fleshy outline of whatever someone was doing in there. It was very awkward. I really liked the complementary Bliss products. It was hard getting used to the Lemon+Sage scent of everything, but I grew to like it. Overall, I really liked the W and I would stay there again. The staff was freaking awesome, the location was fantastic, and I would go back just to get more Bliss Lemon+Sage soap. I just don't understand why they would knowingly stick 4 people in a tiny two-bed box and then charge them extra for the comfort they already more than paid for. If you're planning on staying at the W with more than 3 people, then I suggest either booking more rooms or paying out of your mind for a legitimately swanky room.

Excellent Hotel. The W at the Times Square is a place that your friends and family that ever visited New York will envy. The beautiful fountain as you enter allows for a presentation that will exceed your expectation as you entered the hotel.

Great location : easy to get to Port Authority bus station, Rockefeller Center & fun sites. Friendly staff offering directions. Food options are pricey. Comfortable bed and funky decor. On corner of Times Square so expect to hear the excitement all through the night. The room not sparkling clean, a telephone didn't work and a light switch was smashed in making it impossible to have light in part of the room. Offers free granny smith apples. Friendly staff.
