Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort Bahamas All Inclusive Guest Reviews

Although nothing was really wrong with this hotel there also was nothing really great either. The bourbon ran out, the rooms have little lighting, the food was almost never hot, and the staff lacks the let us serve you attitude. There was no hussle and no timely taking care of requests. However it is a good location and they make a real effort to entertain their guests.

We realized that the Bahamanian economy is suffering too and didn't set our hopes too high. Chose this hotel because one of us is vegetarian and gluten free which makes eating out every day very difficult. The all-inclusive option meant these were always choices available at the buffet. Food was almost always good and many options. We had nice room with ocean view and clean.

This was a total disaster, the Bahamian employees (men) there were off the chain! COMMUNICATION: If you don't have AT&T or Verizon, your phone will not work. It is $12 to buy a phone card there, and it even cost money to use there computers, so bring your Free WI-Fi iPad or iPod and have at it. THERE IS NO ATM ON RESORT! STAFF: Totally Unprofessional Across the Board! You would have thought these men just came out of prison...they were like dogs in heat and stalked us and invaded our privacy the entire time. The security guy even videotaped (with his camera phone) us while we were walking on the beach in swimsuits! Male staff followed us everywhere: the jacuzzi, the beach, the bar, the dining area (invited themselves to our table), the pizza cafe, even the dang entrance/ exit of the hotel when we were ready to leave! Where are the supervisors you ask? Doing the same thing, making sexually suggestive comments and jestures at us, even the owner tried to pull a perv move on us. The female staff (front desk) were mean (haters) and uninviting. ROOM: There was a common smell that smelled like sewage in the room. The baby ants in the rooms took over the sink & counter, the bottled water tastes like its from the toilet. The toilet seemed broke, you have to work it a certain way in order to flush. There is no complimentary toothpaste available to you, so you have to buy the $5.25 paste at the local store. FOOD: Don't be cheap and come here for the All-Inclusive setting. The food taste like hospital food. The food sits on a hot bar, but is not hot. There are no microwaves. They have separate restaurants there, a Asian and an Italian, besides the buffet dining hall selection, but its nasty as all heck, and left me starving...no one in the Asian restaurant cleaned their plate. It was almost like the guests are being punished for getting a cheap resort deal, so we have to suffer by eating their nasty baby food. There is a snack bar on the beach, serving burgers, hot dogs and fries, etc, but in order to get the food you have to get through to the "Cracken" who is an angry obese woman, who selectively picks when she wants to take your order for free food. Good Luck. Suggestion: eat at the restaurants in Port Lucaya, like Zorbas and get some traditional Bahamian Cuisine, and some good drinks like: "Bahama Mamas" and "PainKillers" (good on prices). ACTIVITIES: They have water sports, but they don't seem very knowledgeable about safety and seem quite comfortable with letting you drift off in the rough waters by yourself. You have a Life Vest and Hopefully a Good Luck Charm. Only 1 Life Guard on staff so try if you wanna. ACCESSIBILITY: It is $15 to take a cab to the nearest shopping area, Port Lucaya, and $15 back ( you can tell the cab driver when and where to meet you and he'll come back for you). Please use the buddy system, it is not just the hotel staff that has the aggressive sexually suggestive behavior, its the area! The men even tried to bang on the glass of our cab in order to get to us as we were driving away! There are always cabs, remember your route....never take an offer for a ride with the men there (common sense), because they WILL randomly offer you one. OVERALL: I will never come back to this hotel (or maybe even Bahamas) simply on the basis that there is a perverted culture there that enables the staff to act unprofessional towards the guests. Whether your single or married, it is safe to say to your lady will be a target, so keep those eyes wide open. I have never seen hotel/ resort staff act in such a way. The staff's behavior really spoiled the trip for us because it was an annoyance that we couldn't shake, which took away the "vacation" feel of it all.

My husband and I stayed at the resort October 12 -16, 2011. As this was our first visit to the Bahamian Islands we were totally psyched for this trip. What a complete and utter disappointment!!!! Let me start with the few positives about the Wyndham Fortuna Resort: 1. The beach was beautiful. Clean, white sand, clear & warm water. 2. We enjoyed sailing on the Hobie Cats which were available to guests. 3. "Forontina" (please excuse me if I’ve misspelled your name man!), the bartender at the 'Goombay Bar'. He was consistently friendly and helpful (he suggested several good places to go eat. We particularly enjoyed ‘Agave’). 4. The young lady who ran the snorkeling tour (sorry, don’t remember her name) 5. “Norbert”, the young man who ran the Scuba Shop. Now for the negatives: Accommodations: • The resort itself is older and in a fair state of disrepair (i.e. peeling paint on the exterior walls, rotting wood on some of the columns. Approximately half of the lights in the section of the ‘Abaco’ building, where our room (# A1208) was, were not working. • When we arrived the level of cleanliness or our room was not what one would have expected for an alleged 4-star resort. o Dirt streaks on the mirror and counter top in the bathroom. o Under the vanity there was a used cotton ball. One would assume if the floor had been properly mopped & sanitized the cleaning person would have seen that. We left it there thinking that on one of days the maid came to clean the room she would notice that bit of trash and remove it. After 3 days of looking at it we finally conceded defeat and threw it out. o A thick layer of dust on the closet doors. This also remained throughout our stay. o The A/C unit in our room was so loud that even with alcohol included it was difficult to sleep. Resort Staff: o With the exception of the staff members mentioned at the beginning of this review the general attitude of the staff ranged from apathetic to outwardly rude. I.e. I did not appreciate the lack of maturity and professionalism shown on the part of the boy who was in charge of the Trapeze. On what planet is it acceptable for a hotel employee to repeatedly make comments to a female guest (she was in line in front of us) about the possibility of her breasts (not the word he used but I will not repeat the profanity in this review) popping out of her bikini top if she were to use the equipment?! In the United States we call that harassment. Food: In a word, atrocious! Junkaroo Restaurant • The 2nd day of our stay I saw cockroaches crawling on the bread/rolls display. I immediately informed one of the waitresses. She in turn told me she had mentioned it to “them” (someone in the kitchen I presume). However, the bread was not removed! I’m certain of this as my husband & I were sitting at a table directly facing the display. • Small birds were ever-present in the restaurant and dried bird droppings were all over the wooden railings. • Every single day during our stay the scrambled eggs were stone cold. An interesting feat given there was steam rising from underneath the chafing dish each time. • The wine included in our reservation came out of a box (Franzia) and it was never properly chilled. Bamboo Restaurant (reservations required) • The Spring Roll appetizers we ordered came to the table on plates swimming in the oil in which they were fried and had no flavor what-so-ever. • The beef in the entrée I ordered was dry and as tough as leather. This particular dish was supposed to have chicken and shrimp in it as well. The chef apparently forgot to add the shrimp. • The rice accompanying the entrée was gummy and equally tasteless. On the whole, Grand Bahamas Island is a beautiful place and we would consider visiting again. However, next time we will take the advice given to us by a bartender at Wyndham Viva Fortuna, the waiter who served us at Agave our last night on the island, and the U.S. Customs Department officer we spoke to at Grand Bahamas International Air
