Ha Long General Information
Ha Long is a small city by Vietnam’s standards, with close to 200,000 people. The capital of Quang Ninh Province is an increasingly vital gateway to the People’s Republic of China and as such, is in the early phases of a phenomenal growth spurt as travel and trade between the two nations rapidly develops. Another, perhaps more conspicuous reason for Ha Long’s precipitous rise is the global interest in Vietnam as a tourist destination. International arrivals to the country have risen sharply over the last two decades after all, with Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang and Cuc Phuong National Park among the usual tourism suspects. Ha Long just so happens to be one of the most popular targets for visitors as well, courtesy of Ha Long Bay. ... Read more »
Ha Long Bay, or Vinh Ha Long, is one of only two natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Vietnam. The Gulf of Tonkin wonder consists of thousands of otherworldly limestone pillars that seem to shift and transform in the mist. The spectacular seascape of Ha Long Bay is singular in Vietnam and indeed, the world. As a result, the bay lures millions to Ha Long from Hanoi, Hai Phong and other parts of Vietnam and Southeast Asia throughout the year. Aside from brilliant endemic fauna and flora, boat tours of Ha Long Bay highlight hidden grottoes, furtive caves and thriving, traditional fishing villages.
Ha Long, Vietnam
Located in the Quang Ninh province in northern Vietnam, Ha Long city and its bay are known for the Ha Long Islets (scenic rock formations). About 100 miles (161 km) east of Hanoi, this city is a popular travel destination in Asia. Whether it’s a trip to see the massive rocks jutting out of the ocean or an adventure into one of the many caves, Ha Long is an unforgettable holiday.
