The Santa Fe Rundown ... Read more »
Santa Fe is not only the oldest state capital in the US, but it is also one of the highest in terms of elevation. Visitors to Santa Fe in the state of New Mexico will enjoy beautiful landscapes, unique adobe architecture and a diverse culture, as well as an array of art, music and fine dining. Santa Fe has a vibrant, historic downtown plaza that is surrounded by shops, galleries, restaurants and hotels. You will be able to find all sorts of souvenirs in the shops, including Native American textiles and jewellery. Some of the shops and galleries operate out of small courtyards. The Pueblo of Tesuque Flea Market and the Sanbusco Market Center are also worth checking out for shopping. You can take a sightseeing tour on the Santa Fe Southern Railway, or visit the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and the Palace of the Governors to learn about the history of the area. Art lovers should not miss the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, whose art was influenced by the region. Many museums are located around the downtown plaza, whilst others are located on Museum Hill.
When To Go
Santa Fe is beautiful to visit any time of the year and has moderate temperatures most of the time. Since it is located in a semi-arid climate zone, winters tend to be cool and pleasant, springs are dry and warm, and summers are hot and dry with rain. Spring is mostly comfortable temperature-wise, but there can be very strong winds. Around mid-July, thunderstorms come from the mountains and bring rain and cooler weather. July and August see the most rain. There is snow in the winter, but it is usually light.
Summer (June-August): Average highs around 30°C (86°F), average lows around 11°C (52°F)
Winter (November-March): Average highs around 10°C (50°F), average lows around -7°C (19°F)
July and August are rainiest months; least rain from December through February
