3Com Park
Renamed many times over the years, 3Com Park is now known again as Candlestick Park and has been home to the 49ers football team since 1971. Originally built for the San Francisco Giants baseball team in the late 1950s, it quickly became infamous as the windiest and coldest stadium in the country. But the arena has hosted two World Series, eight NFC championship games and this is where the Beatles gave their final full concert in 1966. - Watch a 49ers football game before they move from San Francisco to Santa Clara and enjoy the incredible atmosphere that the park held in its heyday.
- Take a guided tour through the park and get a chance to visit the locker room or throw a ball with your friends on the empty field pretending you were the 49ers Quarterback yourself.
- Take a stroll at the former 3Com Park Recreation Area, the large beautiful park on the waterfront adjacent to the stadium, to enjoy the view on the San Francisco Bay and watch the windsurfers from the shore.
Getting There
The former 3ComPark is located in South San Francisco and can be reached by public transportation. If you take the T streetcar line all the way down to the Gilman/Paul station, there is a shuttle (#87) on game days that will then bring you to the stadium. Other bus lines that go to the park include 75X, 76X, 78X and 79X, all express lines that connect with other MUNI and BART stops. The best way to go there is still to drive the US101. On game days, the 49ers team also offers private bus trips from many local destinations.
