San Antonio Events
January gets dirty with the Budlight Riverwalk Mud Festival where the San Antonio River is drained for maintenance and the locals enjoy races and activities in the dry bed.
In February, watch cowboys hold on for their lives at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo with horses, bulls and plenty of fun and food.
Dyeing O'the River Green takes place during St. Patrick's Day where the San Antonio River becomes green in honor of this Irish saint.
The Festival of Flowers has spring in bloom with this San Antonio event that offers gardening demonstrations, cooking demos with herbs, a plant sale and wine tastings of local Texas wines.
In April, Fiesta San Antonio is a 10-day party packed with more than 100 events that celebrate the heroes of the Alamo.
May is filled with music from the Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio. Visitors can enjoy outside dancing, live music and enough food and drink for everyone.
The Folklife Festival in June has San Antonio filled with performances, entertainment and great food.
Diez de Seis is a day in September marking Mexico's independence from Spain. The city of San Antonio celebrates with a street parade, a gala, dance presentations and much more.
Festival of Films in San Antonio is a two-day festival during October that kicks off with a party and then moves on to film viewings and workshops featuring independent films.
El Dia de Los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in the Mexican culture that remembers the lives of those who have passed. San Antonio celebrates with family processions to the cemetery to decorate graves.
When To Go
March through July offers visitors to San Antonio spring and summer temperatures that are warm but tolerable. This is the busiest time for the city because it’s when the majority of the festivals take place.
Fall (August through October) brings a little relief with daily temps around 68°F (20°C). Most of the theme and water parks are closed for the season, however this is a great time to walk around and explore San Antonio.
From November through February, San Antonio chills down to 66°F (19°C) during the day. Although the evenings can be chilly, it doesn't rain much and it never snows.
Getting There
The San Antonio Airport is centrally located and easily accessible from Interstate 410 or US Highway 281. Ground transportation is available to take visitors to their accommodations in and around the city.
The Amtrak station offers routes to San Antonio and all major Texas cities. The Texas Eagle can take tourists from San Antonio to Austin, Houston or Dallas.
When travelling by bus, there are many major lines like Greyhound and the Kerrville Bus Company, which runs to San Antonio and other cities and states.
