Reno Events
Bring the heat to January with the Reno Winter Bachata. This Latin dance fest is full of workshops, nightly shows, live bands and, of course, plenty of dancing.
The Reno Jazz Festival is sponsored by the University of Nevada, and is filled with ‘all that jazz’ for three days during the month of April.
Mark your calendars in June for the Reno Film Festival, where there will be competitions, films, speakers and much more.
In July, the Great Basin Chautaqua entertains visitors to Reno with a lively history lesson that is quite the crowd-pleaser among the arts and culture scene.
Since the early 1970s, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival has taken place every summer near Reno. Sit on the beach, have a glass of wine and enjoy favorites like Romeo and Juliet.
At the end of summer every year, the Burning Man celebrates art and self-expression by gathering in the desert near Reno for one week and is filled with very unique displays and entertainment.
Free to the public, the Great Reno Balloon Race is held each September in Rancho San Rafael Park and offers tethered rides, crafts, food and lots of fun.
Packed with Scottish athletics, the Reno Celtic Celebration will be enjoyed by the whole family. This is a fun gathering in October.
Beer and food, what more can be said about Oktoberfest in Reno? Visitors will love the German gusto of the various festivals that take place in the area every October.
Based on a fictitious account, the Virginia City Camel Races are now a very real and fun event that goes on near Reno every fall.
When To Go
From April through August, summertime in Reno offers enough heat to endure the cold waters of the lake. The beach areas are a great place to hang out and enjoy blue skies and sunshine.
September through November is a great time to visit Reno with delightful temperatures around 82°F (28°C) during the day and 43°F (6°C) in the evening.
Winter, December through March, offers plenty of snow in Reno, which is prevalent until early spring. Skiing and other outdoor sports are popular with daily temperatures of 45°F (7°C) to 52°F (11°C).
Getting There
Traveling by air, the Reno airport is located just minutes away from the downtown area. There are paid shuttle services and complimentary hotel shuttles available to visitors from the Reno, Tahoe Airport.
Located downtown on North Center Street, the Amtrak station offers train services to Reno and to the rest of the country everyday.
By bus, visitors to Reno will find a station for Greyhound located on Stevenson Street downtown. The bus has lines that run from Reno to all over the US; however, the trip will take a day or two.
