When To Go

Portland has reliable weather that includes warm summers and mild, rainy falls, winters and springs. This rainy season goes from November to April, and brings occasional snowfall. In May, the flowers are in bloom in the many parks and gardens of Portland. Summer never really gets too hot in Portland, and it tends to stretch into the months of September and October.

Getting There

Located about 20 minutes from downtown, the Portland International Airport serves over a dozen airlines from many cities both domestic and international. Ground transportation from the airport includes the TriMet MAX light-rail train, taxis, rental cars and shuttles.

By train, Amtrak provides service to the city of Portland through the Union Station. There are three trains that offer daily services for travellers going to and from Portland. The trains are called Amtrak Cascades, Coast Starlight and Empire Builder.

Driving to Portland, whether it is a cross-country trip or just a weekend getaway, is pretty easy. Travellers coming from the north or south will come via I-5. For those heading to Portland from the east, they will take US Highway 302 west to the reach the city. As for getting a glimpse of scenery and taking your time, US Highway 1 also comes to Portland.
