Carnegie Hall is singular however, with legendary acoustics and interior design. Built by steel baron and billionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891, the U.S. National Historic Landmark has been the stage par excellence for classical, jazz and contemporary music in America ever since. The list of premieres at Carnegie Hall is impressive, from Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák to Variations on a Theme of Corelli by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Names like George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington and Philip Glass have all made a home here at one time or another.

Carnegie Hall has three distinct performance venues: Isaac Stern Auditorium, Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall.
Carnegie Hall has not had a resident company since 1962, when the New York Philharmonic left for the Lincoln Center.
