Anchorage Climate
Anchorage has a climate that is characterized as subarctic, with summer temperatures ranging from 55°F to 78°F (13°C to 26°C). The summer months of May through September are typically mild and the most popular time to visit. During the long winter months, snowfall is a definite and the temperatures, around 5°F to 30°F (-15°C to -1°C), are extremely cold.
Getting There & Around
To reach Anchorage by air, most travellers fly into the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The Alaska Railroad also brings visitors in and connects Anchorage with several places such as Fairbanks and Girdwood.
Getting around the city and nearby park can be done either by hired car or float planes. Except for the downtown area, Anchorage is not walkable. If planning to visit in the summer, hire a car ahead of time, because most rental agencies will be sold out upon arrival.
