The city of close to 175,000 people has a rich history as a cattle ranch settlement and sits among some of the most rugged and beautiful scenery in America, let alone Texas. As a result, Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a must-see for visitors to Amarillo. The park was a notable muse of painter and former Amarillo resident Georgia O'Keeffe, who like so many others, found inspiration in the dramatic canyon landscape.
