The Victorian-era, Neo-Gothic Manchester Town Hall is a masterpiece of architecture. First opened in Manchester, England in 1877, the Town Hall is situated on a triangle shaped plot of land that faces Albert Square and was designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse, who won an open competition for the honours. The Town Hall is now home to many offices for local government as well as the ceremonial headquarters of the Manchester City Council. Getting There
Manchester is connected by a modern network of public transportation, making it easy to reach the Town Hall. St. Peter’s Square station is the closest stop of the MetroLink. It is connected to the Piccadilly, Victoria and Deansgate stations. There are several bus stops near the Town Hall, including St. Peter’s Square, Albert’s Square, and Princess Street. Although Town Hall is near a number of motorways, it can be very difficult to find nearby parking, so it is best to use public transportation and then walk the short distance.
