- Attend a gig; the venue's four locations (all near each other) make up Manchester university's student union venues, and have hosted artists like Lady Gaga, The Who and Dire Straits in the past. They still organise chart-topping performances so it's a great insight into the current music scene.
- Try an alternative show; the Manchester Academy puts on comedy nights and club nights, as well as its usual focus on music.
- Go into downtown Manchester for a shopping trip; the Arndale centre is an easy walk from the academy, and the city centre has department stores and boutiques dotted around everywhere.
If you take a coach from downtown Manchester, find a bus in the 40s going in the direction of the university; it's not a long trip. Alternatively rail passengers can take a cab, or can navigate the bus services, many of which operate until late. Next to the Manchester Academy there is an official car parking for the venue, although this costs a couple of pounds. Alternatively, find somewhere to park nearby and walk. Coaches and trains from London can be expensive, so booking in advance is advisable (coaches tend to be the cheaper, if less comfortable option).« Hide
