At 135 metres high, the London Eye (or Millennium Wheel) was the tallest Ferris wheel ever built upon completion at the turn of the last century. Since surpassed by the Star of Nanchang and the Singapore Flyer, the London landmark is nonetheless a marvel of modern engineering. The wheel features thirty-two egg-shaped, climate-controlled compartments and rotates slowly enough to allow passengers to step on and off without ever coming to a complete stop. Located on the South Bank of the River Thames on the edge of Jubilee Gardens, the London Eye is easily accessible by bus, rail, tube and boat.
