Greenwich

Greenwich is a desirable area of London on the south bank of the River Thames. Within the London Borough of the same name, the town that gave the world Greenwich Mean Time is a paramount hub of historic landmarks and worthwhile points of interest. ... Read more »

Greenwich led a prosperous life from the 15th century on, most notably as the home of the Palace of Placentia. While the birthplace of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I is no more, the Old Royal Naval College is a decent replacement. The incredible late 17th century complex is a vital cog in the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. Others include Greenwich Park, the Royal Observatory, the Queen’s House and the National Maritime Museum. The famous Cutty Sark clipper ship is a popular tourist attraction on the Greenwich riverfront, in addition to the Millennium Dome and O2 entertainment district.

Vitals and Tips

North Greenwich on the Greenwich Peninsula is the only London Underground station to service the area. The district is also accessible by rail at Greenwich station or via river boat.

The Thames Path National Trail runs parallel to the Greenwich riverfront.

Greenwich is approximately 9.5 km from Central London.
