Though a functional home and place of work for both the sovereign of Great Britain and royal staff, Buckingham Palace is open to visitors in August and September. Tours of the Queen’s Gallery, Royal Mews (stables) and State Rooms are available separately or as part of one comprehensive “Royal Day Out”. Highlights include the Royal Collection, with works by Rembrandt, Rubens and other masters, in addition to exhibits on rotation that feature antique furniture, jewelry and royal costumes. A final stroll through the magnificent Garden at Buckingham Palace is the climax of the royal tour.
Vitals and Tips
Changing the Guard takes place in the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace every day between May and July and every other day the rest of the year.
The Palace has 775 rooms and 77,000 m2 of floor space.
Buckingham Palace offers tours between August 1 and September 28 only and tickets sell out fast.
The three Underground stations that provide access to Buckingham Palace are Victoria, Green Park, and Hyde Park Corner.
