Popular Destinations near Jersey Channel Islands
Favourite Cities and Hotels in United Kingdom

For many, the Channel Islands are pastoral gems that feel like time warps to a bygone era. In many regards, the rural, rustic enclaves of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, all a short hop off the coast of Normandy, France, remain much as they were hundreds of years ago. Like the Isle of Man, Jersey is a British Crown dependency and home to just over 90,000 people. The island has one dominant attraction in Mont Orgeuil, a castle in the village of Gorey. Incredibly, the 13th century landmark has been a fortification site since prehistoric times. Guernsey has a similar 13th century attraction in Castle Cornet, now home to several museums germane to the island's history. The island of Alderney is popular with nature lovers who come to gaze at puffins and hedgehogs, among a host of other creatures. Last but not least, Sark is a pretty car-free island with only 600 inhabitants.

    Jersey Channel Islands Rundown

Upon arrival in Jersey, you may find it difficult to work out whether you are in Britain or France. Jersey’s location - just northwest of France but in the English Channel - means it has a mixture of both influences. For example, you will find French road names but English is the common language spoken. Jersey is a British Channel island and Crown dependency, but it rules itself. Jersey is also a place of contradictions in other ways - with its futuristic high rise steel and glass buildings in the capital, St Helier where the suits rule the streets, to the long sandy beaches of St Aubin’s Bay, La Roque Point and St Ouen’s bay where the surfers hang out. ... Plenty of high earners live here, Jersey being an offshore tax haven, and there are plenty of exclusive Michelin starred restaurants, jewellery shops and high end designer goods to cater for them. But the farmer’s markets are well stocked with local produce and the French Markets like the Fete de Noue Christmas Market offer a range of traditional wares, illustrating the fact that Jersey existed well it became a finance centre. Bergerac was filmed here in the 80’s – remember?
