Whatever the exact date of Edinburgh Castle’s original construction, the vast castle fortress has withstood numerous invasions and restorations over time. Some of Scotland’s most notable points of interest lie within the Castle Rock complex, from early 12th century St. Margaret’s Chapel to Crown Square and the Royal Palace. Over 1.2 million people visit Edinburgh Castle every year, more than any other attraction in the country.
