Canonmills
Canonmills is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Canonmills is a small town that dates back to the 1800s. The village is built on a loch that was drained in three phases during the 18th and 19th centuries before finally being emptied in 1865. The town gets its name from the canons of the Augustinian order of Holyrood Abbey who operated the mill that was housed there in the 12th century. Canonmills Top 3
- Visit the George V Park in the southeast portion of Canonmills, which became home of Edinburgh's Royal Patent Gymnasium. This area is perfect to take in the sights and simply enjoy the outdoors.
- The Scotland Street Tunnel is closed off and no longer in service, but it is still an incredibly interesting site to visit.
- Royal Botanic Garden is one of the biggest draws of the area and for good reason. All visitors to the Edinburgh area should take the time to take in the sights and sounds of this legendary attraction.
Getting There
If visitors are coming from the Edinburgh area or will be visiting there they can easily hire a car to take them the ¾ of a mile that it takes to get to Canonmills from the northern edge of New Town. They may also be able to take the main thoroughfares through Edinburgh into Canonmills. The scenic area is incredibly easy to find and to get to as it lies just on the outer edges of the city of Edinburgh and is highly accessible through both private and public transit.
