The county of Dorset in South West England is famous for extraordinary beauty, most notably on the Channel coast. The UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, traversable via the South West Coast Path, is especially scenic. Resort towns draw scores of visitors to Dorset in the warm summer months as well, with Bournemouth as one of the most popular.

The town of 165,000 people is the most populous in Dorset and sits just east of the Jurassic Coast. From June to August, Bournemouth transforms into a veritable leisure, entertainment and recreation mecca, as scores of urbanites descend on the resort town to escape life in the city for a week or two. The beach and pier remain the most desirable spots for visitors, with the vast majority of restaurants, bars and attractions within close proximity. For a taste of genuine history, check out the Royal Bath Hotel, with such famous former guests as Oscar Wilde and H.G. Wells.

    Bournemouth Rundown

There’s over seven miles of golden sandy Bournemouth beaches and 3000 stripy deckchairs to choose from on the Bournemouth seafront – but grab your spot early because during the summer Bournemouth gets packed with holidaymakers and day trippers. The southern Dorset resort represents an honest, good old-fashioned day out at the seaside. Buts there are no ‘kiss me quick’ hats here - Bournemouth has an old fashioned Victorian gentility which puts it a cut above the rest. ... Read more »

Bournemouth has two Piers, Bournemouth Pier and Boscombe Pier, the perfect places to enjoy your fish and chips, but beware the aggressive seagulls – they have been known to carry small children off, let alone your dinner. You can also enjoy a small or big promenade along the huge promenade, whilst admiring the well tended ornamental gardens. If you like your entertainment more exciting, then try out surfing or water boarding at the Surf School, then test out your new skills at the brand new Artificial Surf Reef.

Bournemouth has been guided gently into the 21st Century - and now has a huge shopping complex and enough bars and clubs to keep even the most energetic of stag and hen parties happy.
