Pamukkale, a part of the Denizli Province, is located in the southwestern region of Turkey. Pamukkale is known for its hot springs and breathtaking travertine with purported restorative properties. The famous terraces are easy to find and cost 20TL for a day-access pass to enter. The one-of-a-kind formations of travertine pools, shelves and stalactites are formed by warm mineral water cooling as it flowed over the edge of a cliff, leaving traces of calcium. Pamukkale has a unique landscape unlike any other and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage along with Hierapolis, an ancient Greco-Roman and Byzantine city about 20 km (12.4 miles) away. Here, you can soak in the hot spring or cool yourself in the Cleopatra’s Pool among the ancient ruins. The Hierapolis Archaeology Museum was once a Roman Bath and now showcases ancient artefacts. Pamukkale’s location makes it easy to see nearby attractions, including Aphrodisias, one of Turkey’s most complete archaeological sites, and Laodicea, a city is one of the Seven Churches of Asia (as mentioned in the Bible).
