As a natural harbour in the Aegean region of Turkey, the city of Fethiye is a wonderful destination to explore. Over half a million Britons flock to the small city of 70,000 people every year and thousands live permanently in Fethiye. About halfway between Bodrum and Antalya, and a short ferry ride to Rhodes, the coastal community is one of the most accessible and affordable on the Turkish Riviera. One of the main lures in the vicinity of Fethiye is the resort village of Ölüdeniz, where a picturesque lagoon and beach offer exquisite repose outside of the hyperactive, peak tourist months. Within Fethiye, a notable abundance of important landmarks and monuments await. These include a phenomenal ensemble of ancient Lycian stone sarcophagi, a Crusader fortress and the Tomb of Amyntas. The Fethiye Museum preserves a good collection of relevant ancient relics and Faralya Market is worth a tour. Above and beyond the inherent attractions in town however, the top attraction in Fethiye is Blue Flag beach charm and the promise of a gorgeous Mediterranean holiday.
