Traders Hotel Beijing By Shangri-La

Stayed here several times and found it to be excellent value for money with friendly and efficient service. Not the best location for many of the tourist attractions but the pluses outweigh that.

Traders Cafe dinner buffet is a rip off. Food is everything but good. Sodas are stale and a pathetic spread of dishes. At 170 RMB (about 20USD) not a bargain. Otherwise very good hotel. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Very polite and well mannered.

Being a member of the "Golden Circle" I was upgraded to a suite. Compared to the Shangra La in Qindoa, there is no comparison. Feel the rooms are over priced for what you get. Didn''t have a bad experience, but wouldn''t stay there again.

Traders is a typical Western-style business hotel; part of the Shangri-la chain; it''s attached to the China World Trade Center and Shopping Mall; it''s a very nice hotel, and the staff is extremely helpful.

The location of the Traders Hotel is perfect. I had several meetings at the adjoining World Trade Tower I and Tower II where many multinational corporations'' representative offices were located and I could walk to the office buildings without being exposed to the cold weather outside.

The staff''s attitude was nice and the room was clean and comfortable.

I felt very welcome and found that many of the employees showed a genuine friendliness which you seldom find. The room had everything I could need but was kept too warm for my taste, and turning the air to cool and the temp down to around 16 0C did not help.

Hotel is great for business travellers. The free broadband in the room is fantastic. The hotel is also near a shopping mall through the walkway and also to subway station. The walk is about 10-15 minutes. Also the dinner buffet is excellent and very fair like 88-98 RMB++. Food quality is also up to standard. We will come back and stay here again.

The stay was unpleasant as one of the concierge staff lied to my wife upon check-in, when she asked for a change in room, saying that the hotel was fully booked. The request came about as the air con filter was so dirty, rendering poor ventilation in the room. Minutes later, we managed to get another room! I don''t see how this could be possible if the hotel''s "fully booked". Another incident arose on the 1st night in which my daughter''s CD and CD box cover were stolen from her unlocked luggage! It was only upon reporting the matter that both items were found by both the Housekeeping & Security staff. Thankfully, the staff were responsive in this case. No service recovery was offered though, which is surprising for a Shangri-La owned hotel. The gym was unfortunately undergoing renovation and to make one''s way to the adjoining China World Hotel was a daunting task. Surely, an alternate location within the Hotel could''ve been set up.

I am staying happily at Traders since many years whenever I come to Beijing and had only once something to complain - and that was then solved immediately without any fuss by the management. So I keep on coming back and have never regretted, as it''s comfortable and, best of all, located "in the middle of everything" so it is never far to go to most business, sightseeing or leisure places!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone - this is the standard by which I will always rate a hotel - does it measure up to Traders. Last year we stayed in Traders in Singapore - another great hotel.

Despite obvious language barriers all staff I spoke to tried hard to understand and help with whatever problems I had but did not feel they went quite far enough, not for a Shangri-la hotel, not much has changed in the hotel since I last stayed there 7 years ago! Bathroom was small but clean, room service food was very average but prompt. Not a top hotel but it''s location is hard to beat, would probably stay there again as it is much cheaper than nearby China World and Kerry Hotel.

Traders was an excellent choice for us. We had stayed there before and knew that we would be pleased and happy with the service and facilities. No complaints or issue--all went well and we were very happy to have the opportunity to spend our Beijing time in such a comfortable atmosphere. Good job. Thank you.

The hotel is in a good location having many advantages of being close to the China World Hotel and the shopping area linked to it. The ambience is good as is the service. No fault found at all and would certainly recommend it highly to others.
